Enjoy nature more when you are protected from insects, sun and heat in these versatile bug-repellent convertible pants. These pants are treated with permethrin, a synthetic form of a naturally occurring bug repellent derived from flowers. Keep the bugs away and have more time to play with apparel treated with “No Fly Zone” tm, includes mosquitoes, ticks, black flies and gnats. These zip-off pants are marked “right” and “left” to save time, are 100% wrinkle free nylon and feature a semi-elastic waistband.

Somewhat small; Could be remedied with a little stretch in fabric to allow better movement.
These fit me to a certain extent. I think they are way overpriced for the fabric used, which is 100% nylon, which, in turn, has no give. That said, the waist band does have elastic, thank goodness, and the waist fits me perfectly. It is the lack of give in the seat and knees when bending or climbing that makes these pants less than suitable for hiking. There is no elastane/Spandex or Lycra to provide the give hikers or outdoor enthusiasts need to move freely. The pure nylon is restrictive. I do like the pockets, but with no give in the rest of the pant, putting anything into the pockets would just make the pants be more restrictive. Someone mentioned that these are low rise pants, but for me, they are neither low rise nor standard waist, but somewhere in between. In comparing these with my favorite hiking pants by Aspen, which have a lot of give and are insect repelllent, these would be my back up pants when my others get dirty.

Good quality pants, nice detailing
These pants are well-made & of good quality, w/lots of belt loops, pockets & nice details such as a D-ring at the waist & a back zip pocket. The rise is higher, which I prefer in hiking pants. I usually wear a SM but ordered an XSM, based on the many comments that these run large, and am glad I did, as the XSM fits the same as a SM in other brands. As many reviewers mentioned, these pants have a long inseam, including on the XSM size that I ordered, so I'll need to shorten them. They have a zipper at the bottom of each leg, however, which makes shortening them a bigger pain. I would rate them a 5 rather than the 4 I gave them if I were tall & skinny & didn't need to shorten them, or if they offered a short version. Because they're long, if I zip off the legs & turn into shorts, on me they'll be more like Bermuda shorts. Like many insect shield pants, these are nylon & quick drying, which is great. The fabric has a different feel to it than all of my other insect shield pants (mostly Ex Officio and Columbia) & seem a little stiffer, which I hope doesn't mean they'll be less comfortable. I'm sure I'll wear these often on nature-oriented trips.

Sizing too large
I, unfortunately, ordered these a few days before a trip to Costa Rica. I didn't have the option of going shopping for other pairs of pants. They were loose around the waist and way too long. As well, the zippers on the side of the legs don't have tabs to hold the pants up and they weren't easily or affordably an option to have professionally tailored or to tailor myself. Next time go with a nice pair of REI brand pants that run true to size and are so diverse. I really didn't like these pants. They were water repellant, so that was a nice feature.

doesn't prevent mosquito bites
This did not help protect me from mosquitoes at all. The fabric is very thin and they bite right through it.

If you're short, the zippered bottoms will be a problem
5'-21/2" and have to drastically tailor the bottoms. I love the idea of the zippered bottoms and yet, if I'm going to keep these pants, I've got to remove the zippers in order to significantly shorten the pants. The waist is a bit loose but the fit is okay everywhere else so getting a Small isn't an option. I'll have to wear a belt or be constantly pulling these up. They are nice and light and attractive.

Seam at waist may pull free after too late to return or exchange
2-1/2 starsInitially seemed well made, so I hemmed legs. Got 2!Wore only a few times but inside seam tore. Not yet into the pocket but looks like it will soon. Separated and pulled from waistband. It did not tear. Looks like there was not enough fabric in the lower part and it just pulled threads through the fabric and unraveled. Too late to return or exchange. The other pair I got at same time seems to be ok so far, and if the first was as good I would give them 4-5 stars.

Like the side elastic at the waist
Seem very well made - have them on for out to the garden now. Like the side elastic at the waist. Good length (am 5'7")

Why are the legs so wide?
I am not a small woman, but these pants have legs so wide I could jump inside one, and wear this like a skirt...a weird skirt...but a skirt.Already worn once, so I will call my little mouse and blue bird friends to help me alter them ala Cinderella
