Vetivert (Vetiveria zizaniodes) is a tall grass that has its origin in India. Known locally as Khus. During the heat of summer, the villagers weave the roots into blankets, hang them over the doors and windows and sprinkle them with water. The mats release an aromatic bouquet that permeates the air, giving a cooling and calming effect throughout the room. Ayurvedic medicine has praised Khus for its potent skin regenerating, anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant and healing properties.
