Excellent atmospheric and dark melodic death metal album from paradise lost.

Very good album, all great songs especially rapture and falling forever (not too big on angel tears and desolate though, instrumentals) I would recommend most metalheads give this a go.

Masterpiece

A slightly different direction than the death metal stylings present on their debut, Gothic exhibited a new sense of melody that Lost Paradise was sorely in need of. It is not perfect by any means but Paradise Lost are interesting as their career can be mapped, album by album as they became more seasoned and confident, their influences far more evident as the years progressed.The best tracks hear are the title track, the now classic 'Eternal' (it is excellent) and 'Shattered'. The rest are all good but some do not have as much to enjoy as others. The new goth-metal sound was a perfect transition from their sludge-doom/death beginnings that evolved again on their next release to embrace more conventional metal as well as industrial leanings, all the way to their eventual Depeche-Moding after One Second.But Gothic was the beginning of a stretch of excellent albums.

Il miglior album dei Paradise.Mantenendo la voce cavernosa di “Lost Paradise”,sono riusciti a creare un’opera musicale notevole aggiungendo cori femminili (dando così ispirazione al genere “gothic metal”)e una certa dose di melodia e tecnica.Le opere successive invece,tenderanno a virare verso il “commerciale”,passando dal “doom death metal” fino al rock elettronico finendo, fortunatamente,al ritorno alle origini negli ultimi album.Consigliato a chi ama il Death Metal ma senza rinunciare a melodia e innovazione.

Un classico senza tempo si spera, ma la copertina era leggermente rovinata. L'edizione presenta un libricino striminzito, all'epoca l'etichetta non credeva tantissimo nel gruppo!

Lieferung und Service sind gut gewesen.Die CD habe ich erst einmal angehört.Die CD gefällt mir relativ gut.Ein endgültiges Urteil kann noch nicht abgegeben werden.

Solo il nome dell'album dice tutto, non ci sarebbe altro da dire, è la STORIA,punto.Vi basti sapere questo. Ristampa eccellente e spedizione ultra fast.

Über das Album muss man denke ich nicht viel schreiben. Es ist ein Death Metal Klassiker.Der Reissue kommt im Gatefold. Der Druck ist vom Original kaum zu unterscheiden.

Nous sommes au début des 90's quand PARADISE LOST crée ce qui va devenir officiellement le metal gothique avec ce disque on ne peut mieux nommé!La recette?Des riffs à la fois lourds façon black sab',ou brutaux comme les premiers disques death metal des 80's dont dans les deux cas le gang est dingue.à cela s'ajoute un timbre de voie caverneux,death,désespéré et un chant féminin qui fait allier brutalité et romance au sein d'un méme album,et surtout d'un titre:"gothic"!Voilà la recette d'un genre nouveau.Et 22ans aprés sa sortie,ce pavé est toujours aussi malsain,noir,torturé(alors que le groupe en bon anglais qu'il est ne manque pas d'humour!) et surtout indispensable!Vous voici en présence d'un disque démoniaque,ou le mot "espoir" n'a pas sa place.Et pourtant ils en ont fait du chemin depuis...mais le meilleur de ce groupe demeure dans les 90's,dont ce "gothic" est une des meilleure représentation de PARADISE LOST dés lorsqu'il s'agit de faire parler le trés gros metal.Une oeuvre compléte à ranger au coté de "bloody kisses" de type o negative qui au méme moment invente son metal noir à lui,mais joué d'une maniére différente.Cultissime et classique,ce disque est tout simplement une tuerie!

I Paradise Lost miscelando le loro influenze britanniche alla sperimentazione iniziata dai leggendari Celtic Frost, partoriscono quello che è un vero classico del Death Metal inglese lanciandosi in maniera definitiva nel mondo metallico.

Das beste Gothic Metal Album überhaupt, ein zeitloser Klassiker. Es ist ein sehr abwechslungsreiches Album ohne Ausfälle und mit einem genialen Growl-Gesang.

Reedición muy fiel a la original en cuanto al formato, respetándolo y no haciendo el típico gatefold supergrueso con vinilos de colores ridículos.

Meraviglioso.

Namensgebendes und einflussreiches Meisterwerk. Doom Death trifft etwas Psychedelik und weiblichen Gesang. Holmes erzählte dass sie vor diesem Album ausgebuht wurden und die Leute ihnen zuriefen sie sollten was schnelleres Spielen, weil gerade Carcass und Napalm Death die großen Namen im britischen Metal waren. Eben drum spielten sie langsamer und langsamer und nahmen die Idee ebenso wie die Sisters Of Mercy - The Reptile House EP(z.B. Shattered) und Celtic Frost - Into the Pandemonium(z.B. Gothic) als Vorbilder für das was folgen sollte. Anathema und My Dying Bride folgtem ebenfalls beim Label Peaceville, Tiamat schlugen mit the Astral Sleep ebenfalls in die Richtung. Künstliche opulente Orchestrierung aus dem Keyboard, Doom Death Monumente(the Eternal) und Opernartiger weiblicher Gesang(Gotihc/Painless) machten Gothic zu dem was es bis heute ist den Inbegriff des Gothic Metals.

ニック・ホルムズ(vo)　グレッグ・マッキントッシュ(g)　アーロン・アーディ(g)　スティーヴ・エドモンドソン(b)　マシュー・アーチャー(dr)英国出身ゴシックメタル・バンド。1991年2nd。といっても当時はまだ「ゴシックメタル」という言葉はなく、このバンドもデスメタルの亜種のような扱いだった。曲調やメロディなどには彼ら独自の美意識が十分見て取れるが、ニックのヴォーカルも荒々しいグロウルであり、陰鬱で重々しいリフは確かにデスメタルの範疇に入るものである。確かにデスメタルからそのキャリアを出発させた彼らだが、「Dead」だの「Corpse」だのといったある意味ありがちなバンド名ではなく、「Paradise lost」という詩的なバンド名を採択した時点で、「こういうバンドにしたい」という方向性は最初から決まっていたのだろう。デス声と女性ヴォーカルのデュエット。ストリングスの導入。攻撃的な部分はあれどスピードを抑えた曲調といった要素は、当時としては完全に独自の世界観を確立しており、このアルバムのタイトルが、そのまま「ゴシックメタル」というジャンルの名を冠することになった。今やゴシックメタル・バンドは世界中に無数に存在し、そのジャンル自体も確固たる基盤を築いているが、ほとんど総てのバンドやアルバムの源流をさかのぼれば、このアルバムに行き着くのだ。そういった意味で、メタル史に新たな楔を打ち込んだ重要な作品である。まあ粗削りな部分も多々あるけど(笑)
