Underappreciated bracket and super helpful
The guys helping with my basement (including drywall) should have been the ones that told me this product even existed. I found them in a YT video. These make it dead simple for the drywallers to locate the speaker hole, then they just jam their cutting tool in the center and quickly make a perfect circle for your speaker. Check the specs on your speaks to ensure you get the correct size. Speaker size DOES NOT equal its required hole size; The hole is always going to be smaller. (Which should be obvious but apparently is not, based on some reviews here!) I left a couple of them in the ceiling to add some strength to the speaker mounts, but a couple of other speakers in another room had a mounting mechanism that wouldn't go over both the drywall and the plastic on these rough-in brackets. Easy fix - just reach inside the ceiling/wall, grab the plastic rough-in bracket and twist. It snaps off very easily.

Good rough in bracket
These are about 8 inches, but that's the hole required for a 6.5" diver speaker, at least the ones I found. They're intended to be mounted prior to drywall, and give a location the drywall installers can cut a nice, alinged hole for your future speaker. They aren't sturdy enough to be a mount without drywall. Only gripe is the lack of a center mark in one axis. The tabs on the side have a seam that marks center, but the round portion doesn't. Not terribly hard to measure, but a score for perfect alignment would be nice.

Cheap and Worthless!!!!
Of the hundreds of products we have purchased from Amazon I have never taken the time to write a review until now... This is the cheapest, most worthless product I have ever purchased in my 54 years on this earth. They are made of the flimsiest, Chinese plastic you could possibly find and the break away tabs break off and the speakers fall down AFTER they are securely installed. As far as I'm concerned, this company owes me $120 for a new pair of speakers!!! I installed the speakers perfectly, according to the instructions. During the installation process I noticed how flimsy the plastic was and how much the speakers sagged and would bounce up and down like a trampoline. As soon as I fired them up one of the tabs broke in half and one side of the speaker fell, causing the other tab to break and then the speaker fell and hit the ground and was destroyed. And, since speakers only come in a 2-pack I am forced to buy another pack. DO NOT buy these worthless pieces of crap unless you want to pay for multiple sets of speakers. Good thing my son wasn't standing underneath!!!

The medium 6.5" bracket DOES fit the Sonance Sonos In-Ceiling Speaker
I had a heck of a time understanding if the Monoprice 6.5" bracket (the medium size) would fit the Sonos Sonance In-Ceiling Speakers. I'm happy to report it *does* fit! It's a nice snug fit with just a little bit of wiggle room. In my research I found conflicting reports, so I bought a set of these (the 6.5" size) and they work great! I don't know why it was so hard to find the actual dimension of these on the internet, but they do work with the Sonos / Sonance In-Ceiling speakers!

Does the Job
Very convenient way to identify and locate your speaker installation. Flimsy material but does the job well.

Good product for what it is
To all who are relying on these to hold a speaker, that's not the intended purpose! These are for pre-sheet rock installation. I have used many speaker brackets, all are intended to be a template for the sheet rock crew to cut out. Please consider the purpose of a product before you give it a low star rating.

Easy, no guessing cutouts!
Was remodeling a room, had the framing exposed at the ceiling. This was the easiest method to ensure the correct placement of the speakers when the contractors began drywalling. Contractors advised it was easy to mark the center of the circle and cut to the edge and follow the plastic bracket. The cut was precise with no gaps, making the speakers fit snuggly. Some reviews say the plastic tabs broke during installation easily. I did not have that problem, not sure how they were installing them but nailing them on to the bottom of the ceiling joist was very easy. I did have someone help me hold it in place while I did the nailing, the bracket might have been left to hang when nailing which could have caused the plastic snaps to break. Remember, the snaps are meant to be easily snapped off to remove the excess. All in all, great product!

BEWARE - THESE FLIMSY BRACKETS ARE 8.3-INCHES NOT 6.5 INCHES AS SOLD
i bought 22 of these to rough in brackets - 11 pairs for 6.5 inch speakers. First off, these brackets are flimsy plastic and WAY OVERPRICED for what they are. I should have measured them before I installed them. THE INSIDE DIAMETER OF THESE RINGS IS 8.3 INCHES. The drywall was installed and the holes were cut to match the 8.3 inch openings. Now I have three ugly choices: Buy new 8-inch speakers for several thousand dollars 2) repair the drywall to accommodate the smaller speakers for $2000 in labor costs or try to find an inset to convert the 8 inch cutouts to 6,5 inches. I called the vendor and they admit the problem but refuse to refund my money. Amazon also refuses to refund.

It is a Must to have it installed in new construction if you are planning to have ceiling speakers or inwall installations, saves time cutting holes since drywall guys does the cutting when they put up the drywalls

not suitable for our speakers - didn't seem overly well built either. Returned.
