Is the spine or backstrap of the knife open? When closed, is the cutting edge of the blade vulnerable to coins and keys finding their way in?

Not that I have experienced yet. it seems pretty secure from any coins or other things in your pocket.

Recently purchased the sog krytron within the last month, has been kept dry on my keychain since... already starting to rust!? “stainless” ?

I ordered the knife and it just arrived. the knife is open and i can't figure out how to close it. help!

Push the scaloped area straight down. It can be a little stiff at first. Once you are able to push it completely down the knife will be able to fold. It will not snap closed so dont worry that you will get your fingers in the way. Hope this helps

Is this a pretty big key chain knife or does the demo model just have really small hands?

It is a reasonable sized knife. The blade is a little over 1-1/2" long and about 3/4" wide. It isn't real big but not tiny either. It really depends on your perspective of what is "pretty big".
