Good Starter Jar
I've been making sourdough for about 6 months now, and this Sourdough Starter Kit has been a great addition to my sourdough routine. The jar is incredibly easy to use for feeding my starter, the cloth cover is perfect for fermentation days instead if using plastic wrap. The aluminum lid seals tightly for when I store starter my in the fridge. The included spatula is great for stirring, and the tracking band works way better than a rubber band to track your starter growth. I recommend this kit for weekly sourdough bakers.

Great for starter care
I really like the size of the jar and the thin mixing spatula. Makes starter feeding a breeze.

handy but a bit too small
I've just started making sourdough bread a few weeks ago. I was given a 50G starter from a friend and the first few 'feedings' went great. However, once I kept a starter of more than 100G, the starter would burst over the edges! It probably grows by almost triple about four hours after feeding and then comes back down but holy moly, when it triples, watch out! It blasted over. I had the screw on lid, and it pretty much blew it up and squished out between the lid and top of the jar. I now use a Large peanut butter jar and that seems to work better for the larger starters. (I still overdo it on occasion). Additionally, I put the temperature strip on, but I don't see how it gives a temperature or even the need for it.

Nice jars but not the best for sourdough
I bought two of these. I'd used the Cambro one quart tubs (https://www.amazon.com/Cambro-RFS1PP190-Polypropylene-Storage-Container/dp/B001E0JMEU/) for years, but I recently bought a Sourdough Home incubator from Brod & Taylor and the Cambro tubs didn't quite fit inside because of the handles on the sides of the tubs. What I liked about these glass jars:• I like glass over plastic• The glass is heavy and thick; they feel sturdy and like they wouldn't break easily• They're very clear so you can really see what your starting is doingHowever, I don't find them particularly good for sourdough starter for two reasons:1) They are so narrow that the only way to mix the starter is with the spatula that comes with the jar, and especially as I scaled up my starter it was difficult to get a good mix. I much prefer to mix by hand—it's easier, it gives me a better feel for the starter and I can ensure a much more complete mix.2) They are difficult to clean. The easiest way to clean up a container that had sourdough in it is to let it sit for several hours to overnight until the remains of the starter dry out completely. You can then just scrape the inside of the container with a spatula and the dry flakes fall out, after which it is easy to clean up the tiny bit of residue that is left behind. But in these glass jars even after drying the remains stick really hard to the glass and you still end up with a somewhat messy and time consuming cleanup process.Other problems with them:• One of the two sets I received was missing the cloth cover. I've seen other reviewers also received some without the cloth covers. As near as I could tell, Amazon doesn't provide a way to communicate to this seller. The only option Amazon offered was to return the entire kit and get another one. It wasn't important enough to me to go through that, or to create the waste and carbon footprint of a return. And since I'm not going to use these for my starter I don't really need it.• I found the temperature strips useless. The temperature indication is so faint it's almost impossible to read, and I don't think it's very accurate.• The black band is easy to put on but I prefer just using a thin rubber band that doesn't cover up so much of the starter.I'm going back to my Cambro tubs. They are very easy to mix in by hand. If you let the starter remains dry they are super easy to clean up. I highly recommend them for sourdough starter. For myself, I'm going to cut one of the handles off of each of a couple of the tubs, and then they'll fit inside the Sourdough Home device.

Good product
Perfect container for creating sour dough starter. The large band to mark where the dough starts makes it easy to see when it doubles

Perfect for sourdough starter
I looked at a ton of these before settling on this one. I got a new starter and had to find it a home. I didn't want to invest in some of the higher end ones because I am new, didn't know if I would keep it up, and even if I did, it's for baking the occasional loaf. This has been perfect for my modest needs!
