A good knife for the price.
This is a very good fighting dagger for the listed price; It's close in style & heft to the Cold Steel Taipan which costs a whole lot more($279-$500+). An improvement that can be made is to give the blade a black coating to reduce the glare in case someone actually needs to use it in combat. I served in with 1/75th Ranger Battalion and would have loved to have had a dagger like this vs the Ka-Bar standard issue, a good and tested knife but not as ergonomic as this dagger. The weakest feature is the sheath which needs to be improved, otherwise 5 stars. To be clear, it's a killing dagger not for cutting vegetables, so I don't place much emphasis on the type of steel it's made of(T-10 vs 1055 carbon, etc.)

Good value.
Well designed knife with a nice look. Steel is good but blade could be a bit sharper.

Not worth the price I paid for it.

Great Knife for the $$
OK, I have not been to impressed with United Cutlery in the past. But the Honshu series of knives are right up there. This knife is a great double edged fighter as compaired to another company's fighter. This was nice and sharp coming out of the box and now it is scary sharp after honing it a bit.NOW... if they would have a kydex sheath that would lock the knife in, you would have an incredible knife and one worth taking into theater with you.

Excellent knife for price
You will be pleasantly surprised with the quality of this knife for the price. 35 to 40 dollars. Full tang and surprisingly well sharpened out of the box, especially coming from United. Yes it is an affordable copy of the Cold Steel Tai Pan, but without the almost 300$ price. You can use this one without guilt, comes with a somewhat shallow hollow grind that will shave, you may want to resharpen to a flatter grind. At this price you cant complain for a decent made stainless steel dagger blade. While it is not quite up to the standards of a Japanese or German made piece, I was completely satisfied with the fit feel and finish. I own a Tai Pan, but to be honest it is just to good for utility or stress testing. It is more of quality show piece that I am reluctant to thrash and put to serious work. Especially in this economy the Honshu can be used and abused and will hold up quite well. They could charge almost 50 and it would still be cost effective. Don't let the United name dissuade you from past dull stainless decorators. I was skeptical at first, but after a month of testing I would tell anyone thinking about buying this, do it. I had the edge redone on a slackbelt sharpener, now it has a sharper flat grind which I can go over with an E Z lap rod. Definitely a good purchase for the price. You will be pleased with the quality of this knife without adding to much to your card limit! Amazon gave me the best price, 35 plus shipping. With a myriad of dealers, most asking 38 to a little over 40 I got the best price and lowest shipping.

Yes the edges did need work but they honed up beautifully in a really short time (10 to 15 strokes ...
I have a Taipan and ordered two of these just to see if they might be close/equivalent. I think these are absolutely comparable to the Taipan in practically every way (note I have not taken them to a 2 x 4 yet to check out how long the edge would last, but then again I'm not about to put my Taipan though that trial either!! TOO EXPENSIVE!). Yes the edges did need work but they honed up beautifully in a really short time (10 to 15 strokes on a fine stone). The sheath is tight and slightly off by way of design--but since leather stretches a tight fit out of the box is best. Tip: to get the overall sheath to fit optimally, put the knife in as deep as you can, let it set for 30 mins, then put in in deeper. Continue until it's fully seated (or as deep as the sheath allows) and let it set for a few hours. You'll be surprised at the fit. For the snap, clasp the two parts together without the knife in the sheath, then CAREFULLY insert the knife into the clasp loop BUTT first from the belt loop end of the sheath, push it in to the hilt (you may have to work it a bit), once it's completely in leave it in place for an hour, you'll find the clasp now fits around the knife and snaps closed easily.

Excellent for price
This knife is a great knife for the price you pay! It has a nice blade that's full tang with a skull crushing pommel. The blade is easy to sharpen and holds a good edge with little effort! I love everything about the knife except the handle. It feels a little mushie in the hand with a lite grip, but is good with a strong firm grip. It comes with a very decent leather sheath with belt loop
