It discouraged barking for the first two days...and then the battery died. I replaced the battery and it discouraged barking for three days...and then the battery died. I think the only reason the battery lasted an extra day is that I was going out and turning it off every time I let the dogs in and turning it back on when I let them out. But they're outside most of the day.Also, it's WAY too sensitive even on the lowest setting. Every gust of wind, Neighbor talking next door, crow cawing, etc. was setting it off. My dogs were being punished even when they weren't barking so they were never able to make the connection between barking and the unpleasant sound.

I purchased this item because my new next door neighbors have a dog which barks like a moron every morning when they leave for work. I set it outside my slider door facing their yard about two feet high on a bucket. The distance between the device and their yard is less than 20 feet. This device is supposed to be weatherproof but it broke within two rain storms. They sent me a replacement that I now have under an overhang. I had to buy rechargable 9 volt batteries because it would burn through one in a few days.

I'm partially at fault for thinking something like this would actually work, but I was desperate! My neighbors dogs were driving me nuts so I thought I would try it. The instructions were vague and not written well. When I got the battery in there was nothing to hold it in place, it was just loose in there. I had to carefully drop it into place and move it to its final location without the battery losing contact with the receptors. The light worked for a few days, supposedly indicating that it was reacting to the dog bark. But then the battery would not stay in place. Even if the batter slot was designed well I am certain this product would not really work. It probably does not emit anything at all. Please don't waste your money! Just go talk to your neighbors.

My neighbor has 4 dogs, 3 small and 1 large, that she keeps outside all/every day. I bought TWO of these and placed them approx. 20' apart, 3' off the ground, about 4' from the chain-link fence and facing her yard and . ZERO RESULTS! They blink, to signify that they're on and functioning. I've had them in the same locations for a year, so replaced the batteries several times (each time with moisture inside the compartment). ZERO RESULTS! Only thing that stopped the incessant barking was the police and even then only after several phone calls.

This makes it hard when your doing research to get an honest idea of the product. Skin? Vacuum? Mufflers? What's this about?

For our basset hound, with extremely sensitive ears, it works well even on the lowest setting. She runs under the bed, but for our neighbors Pit bull mix, it DOES NOT work on her. She is a year old or so, and barks for the fun of it at 6:30 in the morning. We had this going on full blast, with a new battery, right by her face (on our side of the fence) and it didn't even phase her. So it just depends on the dog.

I don't care what people say, this does not work at a 100%. I can shove this thing in their faces and they still bark. I have barkers behind and on the south side. There is no obstruction, and the sweet little whipper snappers still barks. Ugggg, if only I could find something that really does what it says.

I put a fresh 9v battery in and within a day or two it would be depleted - with no measurable effect on the barking dog. The price is way too high for something that eats through 9v batteries this quickly, without any sort of effect shown. Bummer.Edit: This is a COMPLETE waste of money. Think your experience will be different? It won't. You will regret purchasing this. I did.
