Excellent, if you need it
Most home cooks probably do not need this saw. It is much easier to buy exactly what one needs- asking the butcher to cut it as requested if necessary- and not have to bother oneself. I am not one of those home cooks. I AM a home cook... but we get almost all our meat from a meat CSA, and we are not really able to discuss the finer points of exactly how we'd like our beef shanks cut, for instance; we get what we get. And that's very high-quality and humanely-raised and pastured... but is sometimes not in a form that's easy to use. Like shanks and marrow bones. We get long bones; these are not most useful for cooking. Similarly with trotters. (I'll add that we specifically ask for these and the normal monthly subscription does not contain them.) This saw will make these and similar cuts SO much more useful! I am really excited! I'll add that I am an aspiring home butcher; I'm good at poultry, and am looking to try, say, a ham. And i need a saw for that. I've only given it a quick test thus far, but it seems very effective; the tricky part is to get the meat/bone held so that it can't slide around while one's sawing. I may need a vise for the kitchen, too. But- I am very pleased and excited about the opportunities I now have!

Great if you ever break down larger cuts of meat.
We definitely didn't need one this large but have never ordered or used one before. So I thought bigger was better. It did work great but I'd definitely recommend ordering a smaller one too. Great to break down something larger like sheep/ hog/beef. But really hog or sheep could use something under 40" probably easier.

Heavy duty construction
I was looking for the strongest bone saw at the best price. I took a chance and ordered this saw but I was unsure about the frame material. The description is a bit ambiguous, but I can verify that the frame is made out of stainless steel. Checking the Weston website, I was unable to find a clear statement about the frame construction. The Amazon listing said this is a "Professional" saw, but Weston doesn't have a pro line. I paid a higher price thinking this was a pro model, so I'm deducting a star for a deceptive product title. From the package: * Durable stainless steel frame * Corrosion resistant stainless steel blade * Ergonomically designed handle for comfort cutting * Trigger-lock maintains blade tension * Fast and easy blade changing The model number from the package is 47-1601. It's made in China, if that matters to you. It doesn't to me. Anyone can make products well. The blade is installed and has a plastic cover over it for easy handling when removing it from the package. The handle gives a sure grip and the frame is almost perfectly straight. I have no doubt this saw will perform well when I break down a market hog side. If a 16" saw is big enough for you, this looks like one of the best bang for your buck options.

quality I can trust
WEston has GREAT products. I also have their 1.5 HP grinder and LOVE IT since 2019 and use a LOT to make raw dog food.

Blade isn't great.
Frame has some nicks and dings, but is straight and assembled well, unlike some of the cheaper ones I tried first. The blade didn't cut very well. I have a Lem and the Lem blade is far superior to the one that came with this.

Budget friendly, not lacking in build quality. Worked wonders on a 250 pound yearling Lamb Butcher.
Bought this saw to use on a yearling-lamb. So glad I bought the 22 inch variant of this saw as it had enough length to cut through all cuts to breakdown the lamb into primals. Additionally if you're worried about it being too cumbersome for smaller delicate work, it did well on thicker chops and knuckle joints long as you grasp the saw properly on smaller cuts, similarly to how you would choke upon a hacksaw. The saw came extremely sharp, so keep the cover once the blade is clean.

Very impressive meat saw.
The meat saw was well packaged. The saw is easy to use as the handle is ergonomic in design resulting in less fatigue on the wrist. The saw cuts very easily. It is sturdy and well made. The directions on box are very useful when having to remove the blade.
