Used the Lonely Planet guides for lots of our travels. This did not let us down.These guides have a good balance of information, without being too wordy, so that they can be used on the move.

No full map of Sri Lanka
Then was no map of the whole of Sri Lanka. Trying to see distances and locations when the regional maps were pages apart was difficult. But it is still a nice informative book.

Up to date and full of useful tips
We used this guidebook for a 10 day holiday to Sri Lanka in January 2025. It did not disappoint. Useful for pre-departure planning and as a guide when you are in the country. Really up to date and full of helpful information. A great book for those fortunate enough to visit this amazing island.

Lacks information and poor layout
I have numerous other lonely planet books and they are my first port of call when trip planning. I waited for this to be released so I had the most up to date copy. I am really disappointed by this publication it lacks the details you would expect and find in most lonely planet publications. There are no complete route intenaries, only individual regions which don't link into each other. There is no transport information for traveling within and through different regions. It overall lacks a completeness that you find in other lonley planet travel guides. It feels as though it was written by a group of people that know the country well and haven't taken into consideration that those reading this guid have little to no knowledge of the country.

Solid guide
Love lonely planet never fails in its mission. Bit disappointed they sold me Colombo. It's really not a tourist destination and as a result we wasted time there that would have been better spent elsewhere but otherwise super useful as always.
