Great for Captain America Fans!
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: The Complete First Season” collects all six episodes of the series set in the aftermath of “Avengers: Endgame.” The series teams up Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson AKA the Falcon and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes AKA the Winter Soldier. They live in the changed world in which Steve Rogers sacrificed himself to return the Infinity Stones to their own time before living out his life with Peggy. He handed off the shield to Sam, who remains uncertain if he’s up to the legacy. Meanwhile, Bucky struggles with his past as the Winter Soldier and desires to be the man Steve Rogers believed he could be. Their world is changed from the Blip, with the Flag Smashers believing the world was better during the turmoil from half the population’s disappearance when those who had previously struggled experienced a world with open borders and more resources. Now they find themselves displaced refugees. The US government attempts to introduce a new Captain America in John Walker (Wyatt Russell), but his desire to do whatever it takes to accomplish his missions leads him into more moral failings than Steve Rogers would have tolerated. Karli Morgenthau (Erin Kellyman) leads the Flag Smashers in resisting the imposition of the old order on a post-Blip world. Though technically an antagonist of this series, she resembles Erik Killmonger in being a villain who makes mostly valid points. Returning characters Georges Batroc (Georges St-Pierre), James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl), Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), and Ayo of the Dora Milaje (Florence Kasumba) help to show how the world has changed since Phase III of the MCU. Rhodes attempts to go back to business as usual while Zemo and Carter gain added depth. Zemo’s portrayal in “Captain America: Civil War” was one of that film’s highlights and Brühl is having a phenomenal time in this reprise. Sharon Carter, once a loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. officer, now shows how the Blip shifted allegiances and drove familiar characters to the moral gray areas on society’s fringes. In addition to reimagining familiar characters and exploring the meaning of Captain America’s legacy, the film introduces Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) and his grandson Eli Bradley (Elijah Richardson), both of whom live with the legacy of the super soldier serum after the government experimented on Isaiah in order to try to recreate the technology that empowered Steve Rogers. The result is one of the strongest entries in Marvel’s Phase IV that takes the time to explores these characters in detail prior to their next cinematic appearances. Bonus features on this Blu-ray set include “Assembled: The Making of ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,’” “Cap’s Shield,” a gag reel, and 2 deleted scenes. It also includes art cards based on the show. The “Assembled” featurette is a great deep-dive into the making of this whole series and the complex sociopolitical issues it examines through the lens of Captain America. “Cap’s Shield” not only looks at the legacy, but also the VFX of making the shield work. The gag reel is great given the chemistry these actors have and how that plays out in the final cut as well as the outtakes. The deleted scenes include James Rhodes and Sam Wilson discussing their respective methods of flight and how Rhodes is doing following the events of “Civil War” as well as Bucky hanging out with Sam’s family.

We're Going on a Shrimp Boat Ride
I like the Winter Soldier character in the comics, but the movie version is not as good. Sebastian Stan is a good actor, so it's no knock on him.I don't like how they changed the Flag Smasher character from the comics into this tv show.I was expecting this show to handle the backstory of what exactly HYDRA did to Buck in CAtFA, and explain some but it was never detailed.

What Do You Do If there are no right answers?
This series, besides having a lot of action, makes you think. What could we do that would be fair to everyone if Marvel's Endgame really happened? Things redistributed really did belong to those who had been blipped, but others had been given them for fives years. I didn't think much about the mess that would result from everyone's return when I watched Endgame. I'd like to see more of this story like and the new Captain America, but I disliked the white outfit despite that it was a great design. I hear it was true to what had been in the comics, but I would have preferred it if Sam had been in a suit that was basically the same as the one the first Captain America had worn. If Marvel's series is continued, I hope they change Sam's outfit to what Steve wore.

Marvel Batting .1000
This is absolutely on the same level as the best Marvel movies. The angst of Sam Wilson is fully explored, and there is a LOT of Falcon et al. action. Part 1 of the series alone has some action that tops many movies. I do not want to give the story away - but if you love Captain America and the Falcon (read those comics all through the seventies!) you will absolutely love this show. Actually, I think of it as a long movie divided into segments, which is probably quite accurate. Prepare to be moved emotionally about many strong issues in this film. This is Marvel at its best!
