Trooper: The Bobcat Who Came in from the Wild

I HATED TO GET TO THE END OF THIS BOOK BECAUSE I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH. IT IS A LOVELY TRUE STORY. IT'S GREAT FOR ANIMAL LOVERS AND HAD INTERESTING INFO ABOUT THE LAS VEGAS DESERT. EVEN MY HUSBAND ENJOYED THE BOOK AND HE'S NOT AN AVID READER LIKE ME. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. THE STORY WILL STICK IN MY MEMORY FONDLY.

I met the man who wrote this story. I saw his home in the desert. I met his wife and the people on his staff.I never met the Trooper the cat. But I heard about him many times. Please allow me to say; "Johnson does a very commendable job of describing his home, the desert, that time period on the outskirts of Las Vegas." I really enjoyed 'hearing' the whole, entire, story of Trooper the Bobcat. I bought a copy of the book, as soon as I heard that it was published. I heartily recommend this book to you.

This is a miraculous story of a wild cat, the lives he touched, and the man who rescued him. The pace of the story is similar to storytelling in front of a cozy lit fireplace. Trooper's escapades will steal your heart, as he stuns you with his keen intelligence. The lengths Bryant Johnson and his wonderful wife, Chi, go to for this extraordinary cat is nothing short of incredulous. Our world would be a different place if everyone held the reverence for wildlife that the author, his family, and friends do. I laughed and I cried...I didn't want the story to end.

I really loved this book- even though, as I expected, it ended with Trooper's death, as do most of such memoirs- and that made me cry.Still- so worthwhile!Trooper was a special individual, and I loved the bond he had with the author.And- I admired the way Trooper made plans. Johnson pointed out that ambush hunters- like bobcats and "domestic" cats!- definitely plan and scheme- that's how they're successful: they psych out their prey and anticipate their actions so as to improve their chances of a successful hunt.Very recommended for those of us who love cats!

We recently lost our beloved cat-Ralf. The exciting adventures the Johnsons had with Trooper were very different than ours with Ralf, but he had a very unique and special personality as did Trooper. Anyone who has loved and has been loved by a wonderful animal understands the depth of love felt for your friend and family member. This book has helped me to cope with the loss of my wonderful friend. I so appreciate Mr. Johnson’s willingness to share Trooper’s story with me-thank you, sir.

This is a wonderful tale about a rescued bobcat. It is informative, funny, heartwarming and sad. I love the way the author allowed Trooper to make his choice and gave him the freedom to roam at will. I also love the way the author describes their adventures and the special bond they formed. This was truly an extremely unique relationship that worked out well. I normally do not endorse keeping wild animals as pets. The author was very lucky to have rescued Trooper at such a young age. I recommend this book to anyone who loves animals.

We rescued a Pixie-bob kitten in Mexico and had Ramon for 14 blessed years so this book is very real to me, there are so many special animals out there and I am so happy to read about the ones that find a loving home that respects them....hats off to the author and my hand on my heart for Trooper

As a lover of cats (all kinds), I was mesmerized by the story of Trooper and his humans. Rescued from a cholla patch, the sole survivor of a coyote attack, grievously wounded, he was found by the author as a very young bobcat kitten. The story is touched with humor, excitement, love and loyalty. This book is for everyone but will be appreciated especially by animal lovers. Highly recommended!!
