Kim [DVD] [1950]

Sad world.
I have to say the disc in my posession is of reasonable sound and picture quality. As to its faithfulness to the Kipling book, that may disappoint some viewers.Interesting to have Flynn on good terms with Douglas in contrast to their deadly rivalry in The Adventures of Don Juan.Unlike the film just mentioned, The Adventures of Robin Hood and other Flynn tours de force, Kim is without distracting, loud background audios.Nothing changes overall, however, since men at arms are constantly at each other’s throats.Sad world.

The GREAT GAME goes on
This film version of the story has always been a favourite of mine since I first saw it as a schoolboy. It tells the tale very well and the acting makes the characters and the relationships between them believable. To my mind this film is superior to the later version which does not have the same magic for me.

so many peoples!
The dvd contains a wide sample of the scenes and themes of the original book. The colour and variety of the raj come through well. Perhaps understandably, the maturing of Kim from small boy to attractive young adult male does not come through. I felt that Mahbub Ali was a bit too smooth, not as rough and rugged as he seemed to me in the book. The magic of this great tale does however survive the American treatment!

A wonderful story, I first saw the movie many years ago as a child and I am delighted to now have my own copy.
