The 5 pivot points allow you to move the lamp in a wide range of positions. The LED light is high quality; excellent color/temp range and brightness. I always find a setting I like. The light is direct without being too harsh; there is enough diffusion quality to illuminate a reasonable area on my desk. It does not have that harsh 'task light' beam that many desk lamps do. I've had one of these for 2+ years and it has functioned perfectly.
