It’s a Cool Man Toy.
Let’s face it – nobody plans to use this for any real climbing or secret missions. It’s an interesting device that I admittedly bought out of curiosity.I like gadgets. It sounded and looked cool.I plan to keep it.For what it currently is I give it a solid 4. Nice work. This is something I’m going to need to find uses for because I don’t see any real ones that I’d label this as “the tool” to get done. I’ve tried the gravity grappling and I needed to adjust the bolts/screws before I could get it loose enough to work at all. It’s fairly limited in the items you can pick up, but you can find them and it’ll grapple those very well. Those items will need to be fairly sturdy in its footing to allow the hook to push hard enough to open and if it’s small enough to fit inside the claws you’ll need to be able to balance any items not already hooked or looped. The gravity or compression grabber is also limited in the weight of things it can grab because the compression and friction of the hook ends is not that strong or “grippy”. Anything smooth with more weight than a book of post-it’s that doesn’t have an extruded element to catch will probably just slide out. The gravity clamp concept it mostly used to clamp and move stone slabs or heavy plate material. Those devices are designed with large clamp surfaces to allow the need friction and these hook tips are about as opposite from that design as you can get. As for a grappling hook I think the hooks will be limited in what they can “hook” onto because they are small and impeded by the body of the device.Several people have mentioned the lacking load specification and I agree that a device like this that is to be taken at all seriously needs a load spec provide. That said, I think the construction is more than adequate to hold body weight based on comparison to many other real climbing devises that have actual load calc’s. I’d be much more worried about if the surface the small hooks are grabbing will hold. The suppliers have requested reviews so I’d like to include my recommendations for making the device better.1. Increase the quality of the bolts. A low profile socket head bolt with a binding post or sex bolt would be much cleaner, stronger and impede the clearance of the hooks less. This is a cool looking godet, so there’s also the making it look cooler benefit to consider.2. Beef up the Screw Pin Anchor Shackle. Other than the small hooks, the screw pin is the weakest link in the devise. I’d increase the width of the bottom end of the lower arm just a tad too accommodate the larger pin.3. Change the inside point of the gravity hook grabbers to a larger rounded/hex surface and add some small sharp groves to give it more friction surface and grab while pinching.4. Larger Hooks! The current design gives you less than 2cm of grab on any non-tubular surface. What if someone wants to grapple something other than a tree branch?Bonus Challenge: Try to find a way to artfully attach the “Bat Wing” to the device when not in grapple position for storage and carry as 1 unit. I used the rubber gaskets and back-packed it to the grappling hooks, but I think we could do better.I’m happy with my purchase and I hope this device is not that last rendition. I’d be happy to find an improved “tool” that stemmed for this idea.

A great little hook; check out the video to see it in action
The media could not be loaded. A great and unusual little grappling hook. I saw this and the engineering of it was interesting enough to make me order one. The hook itself is adjustable and can be reconfigured two different ways.In the first configuration, you add the 'batwing' and use the two o-rings to hold the hook closed in a grappling position. We tested it with the tree in the front yard and for such small hooks, I was incredibly surprised at how well it held. Generally we caught a branch on 9 out of 10 tries. It caught on larger branches and on smaller branches as well with no issue. The kids (11 and 7) had a ball with it but I do caution it's heavy and swinging it, they need to be careful. The hook is fairly heavy duty so I would not want to get hit in the head with it. You may also end up climbing in the tree to get it out if you toss it too high and into a cranny.Taking off the o-rings and pulling out the batwing changes the hook and lets it be used as a grabbing clasp. That worked equally as well. Basically the two claws open and can they be placed on a branch, a supporting deck beam, etc... Adding just a little weight pulling downward and the claws press down holding in place. I testing pulling down and they worked as expected and then I loosened up. They continued to hold well even with a light grasp. The last function I can see for the device is as a straight hanging hook. Toss it over a branch at the campsite and you can hook a lantern on it or maybe some towels or a jacket to dry. (not both at the same time please). So in short, versatile, performs as advertised and a nifty piece of engineering. If I've been helpful, please click the link below and let me know. Thanks.

Bruce Wayne made a commercial grappling hook!
Bruce Wayne could easily be the Tony Stark (pre-Iron Man) of the DC universe. He has both the intelligence and capital to make a grappling hook of this caliber and maybe he did. This grappling hook reminds me of batman grappling hook but at a fraction of the cost. It’s very difficult to describe this since I cannot say I have ever seen anything made like it. It can act as a grappling hook; rope tie off or even as a weapon if need be. I am not sure about the weight it can hold and I would be a little hesitant about using it to repel down a wall but it seems very sturdy. I do wish they would tell you the weight capacity or at least a general idea of what it would hold. Totally would buy this again and think this is one of the coolest grappling hooks out there. As a Military guy I am sure I will have lots of uses for it.

A batman hook to play with
this is a cool little hook. I bought it out of curiosity and I find it a well thought out design almost out of a Batman movie. i am not sure if this is the original design or if there are modifications presently or planned in the future. The hook doesn't come with climber's weight, structural strength numbers or how to use so i would guess it is recommended for play and not hanging a lifeline over a lava pit.If a more professional grade or model exists I wold think it would have a heavier duty closure mechanism ( not the black rubber band things to hold it together) like a locking bolt or screw pin. For the money it is fun. A more professional model would most certainly have a heavier price tag.
