First, the top half has an adjustment flange that needs to be set before you plug the unit in. It takes about ten seconds to set correctly and needs to be done when the unit is cool to the touch — just make it part of the routine before every use. Second, there is no temperature control. You plug it in, it heats up, and that's the setting. For most sandwiches this is fine, and the fixed temperature actually performs well across different applications. For those who like to dial in heat levels for different bread types or ingredients, the omission is noticeable. At this price point it's an acceptable trade-off — just worth knowing going in. What an incredible grill! As soon as it was delivered, I grilled a New York Strip Steak. Because of the two plates, the steak was a medium rare in no more than 5 minutes. And it was delicious, complete with grill marks. The best part was cleaning it. After letting it cool down, I wiped the larger debris with paper towels, then wiped both plates with a soapy sponge.

I'm really happy with this sandwich press. It heats evenly and the results are perfect: the bread is crispy on the outside and the cheese melts beautifully on the inside. In the picture, I made some ham, salami, and cheese sandwiches, and they came out golden brown and nicely pressed without being too squashed. Really a minus 3, but you would see it. No on/off, no temp control, no quality. Burnt the outside of the bread without even warming up the cheese inside.
