Just what I wanted!
This is the best book I've read on astronomy so far. Well written and easy to understand!

Stars and stars and stars
This book could have been called Stars and stars and planets. The book's first 263 pages of 293 pages is on stars. The last 130 pages is about the solar system and planets. Who knew there was sooo much information of stars. The book measures 5.25" by 7.5" so the images are not very detailed. Larger photos have a large white bar through the center as they span both pages. I guess I need to look for a full size book. This review may sound like a bad review but it really is not intended to be bad. The book has a lot of information. It just wasn't what I was looking for. Since there are no images or details about the contents of the book on Amazon it's hard to know that.

Really in Depth
I like all the charts and planet information but for me it could have been a little more simple.

Great updated version.
This is a good guide. I found the previous version at the library and ordered this updated one. What I like about this particular book is that the author includes story-line details on the constellations, and not only lists the brightest stars, but gives additional information on them including distance and color. Adjoining the description is a star chart showing not only the constellation, but includes the section in the sky as well. Great section on the Moon. As with most astronomy books, the print is small, so a either sharp eyes, or a field glass is necessary to view the labels on the illustrations.

ALMOST Perfect
Would have been perfect if the book had been larger. As it is, the font and the maps are too small for my older eyes. If they made a large-print edition and up-sized the book from 5.5 x 7.8 to something around 9 x 11, it WOULD be perfect! I don't understand why publishers make books in such small font sizes, which can only be read by people with perfect vision. A larger font can be read by EVERYONE. I, for one, would be willing to pay more for a larger book.
