Item Display Weight:8.0 ounces Zaatar is traditionally dried in the sun and mixed with salt, sesame seeds and sumac. It is commonly eaten with pita bread, which is dipped in olive oil and then zaatar. When the dried herb is moistened with olive oil, this mixture spread on a dough base and baked as a bread, produces manakeesh bi zaatar. Zaatar is used as a seasoning for meats and vegetables or sprinkled onto Hummus. It is also eaten with Labneh (Yougurt drained to make a tangy, creamy cheese), and bread and olive oil for breakfast, most commonly in Jordan, Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, as well as other places. The Lebanese specialty shanklish, dry-cured balls of labneh, can be rolled in zaatar to form its outer coating.

Based off the fragrance alone..update:fooled
When i opened the box i could smell the zaatar. It smells wonderful. Its packaged well and has an expiration date. The only thing i wish it had was the list of ingredients on the package. I will ask and if all is well then I can look forward to picking up some fresh bread from my favorite Mediterranean restaurant, at a mere $0.50 a piece, and slathering it up with olive oil &zaatar then enjoying my favorite breakfast!Update: 2 STARWhen it comes to herbs / seasonings the majority are fragrant in the smallest quantities but when used for food the flavor is of the utmost importance. I think the fragrance was strong upon arrival due to temp. fluctuations during shipping; 2 days later its very subtle. The flavor of this za'atar is too herb bland and more of a sesame concoction. It failed to make za'atar bread. I didn't find the Sumac in this one either just powdered salt. Sumac is tangy, zingy, slight saltiness and has a faint earthy finish. When i do add a little sumac to it the Sumac totally wins over. I was looking forward to my za'atar bread but it was sesame bread instead! 😞. If you eat a pinch by its self the flavor is slightly bitter with bold sesame finish and the sesame is occasionally 'off'. I thought it may work for some hummus but ended up adding sumac and then, well, that was the primary flavor. It turned out to be disappointing at best. This may not be the za'atar some are looking for. I find that in order to get that 'za'atar' flavor vs plain bread (or to try and equal the strength of the olive oil) it takes a ton! However, the seseame overpowers and becomes the primary flavor and finish. I have had my fair share of za'atar in the Middle East and this one has me still looking for that flavor combo, herb quality...I'm sure this may work for some, maybe those that like it to be herb mild and more nutty.Best wishes

Fresh, Tasty Zatar in a Resealable Pouch!
Zatar is a staple in all Middle Easter pantries. It is a spice blend consisting of robust dried ground oregano, toasted sesame seeds and just a bit of sumac spice for a bit of zing. This zatar in particular is very flavorful and fresh and it was delivered sooner that I expected in a convenient resealable pouch. Zatar is a unique spice in that it has a complex yet earthy and herb-like flavor profile that goes very well with olive oil on baked bread or sprinkled over labaneh or any other dips. Traditionally zatar is eaten with bread by dipping it first in pressed extra virgin olive oil then dip into the zatar. The zatar will coat the olive oil evenly making it a great meal for breakfast, lunch or an appetizer. Check out my pictures of my homemade zatar manaeesh using this amazing blend. Just mix with olive oil and spread over pizza dough and bake.

wonderful flavor specially on pita bread 🥖
I used to eat this Za’atar with Turkish bread while I was in Saudi, but when I came to 🇺🇸 , a friend of mine introduced this brand to me. I tried it on pita bread and the taste was amazing. No extra salt or lemon salt added, no hyssop or oregano 🌿 with bitter taste, just original thyme with some toasted sesame seeds, premium sumac , Little salt and some oil. These simple ingredients gave it the balanced flavor I’m used to...

We can't get enough of this blend and we are so happy to have it in our home!

Just the right balance of herbs
Being in the south it's very hard to get any middle eastern food, so I hesitatingly mail order zatar. Great balance, fresh herbs, ready to eat it by the spoonful!
