The magnets are pretty powerful too. So much that my cat could barely get through and I had to demagnetize the door so she could use it. No roaches can get in unless they're like HULK roaches. And if that's the case you may have another problem on your hands. **Q: the bottom half of my screen door is thin aluminum, would this work for it as well?** A: I also have an aluminum panel in the lower part of the screen and have used this car door. I cut a piece out to the same size as the inside of the door frame. Drill the frame holes in the aluminum and without taking the cat door apart, use SS bolts thru the frame and secure it on the outside of the aluminum door panel with cap nuts. The bolts must be shortened if the cap nuts do not tighten against the panel. I never had a problem with the door after installation. **Q: Does it come with a lock? In case you want to keep your pet outside for some reason?** A: If your cat wants in, it will just claw the screen and tear it open and come on in. Screen in door isn't very strong. **Q: It that fit for a median dog, weight about 30 lb?** A: I think 30 pounds is too big. I use it for two cats. One cat weighs 7-8 pounds and the other cat weighs 5 pounds and it is perfect for them. You would need a much larger door. You have to use reinforcement bars to make it sturdy especially with a dog.
