29973 Model E635 Stainless Steel Tubing Cutter Wheel Fits For RIDGID 29963 Model 35S Cutter Replacement Cutting Wheel (4-Pack)

I usually shy away from generic products to service my money making tools. I had a chance to review these generic cutting wheels for a somewhat obscure Ridgid Tubing cutter, the 35S, designed to cut stainless steel. The OEM wheels are tough. They are made of some unobtanium alloy and they don't break or chip. You can even hone them sharp again, if you can dull them. The cutting wheels are supported by roller bearings, much like you find on heavy equipment. I usually have to replace them when they have been abused, not because they failed after a long a fruitful life. If the tool is overtightened, the bearings can be ruined or the wheel can break. I use the 35S to cut ultra thin tubing. The blade is so sharp that the slightest tightening will score the tube without spiralling down the tube. I use the 35S to score chrome to mark where it needs to be cut and use it to do the same on solid bars. It can cut 1/4" thick walled tubing without affecting the sharpness.I ran these generics through the same materials that I cut with with an OEM cutting wheel. The bearings fit well, with no slop on the axle or the wheel. The bearings withstand a lot of overtightening, more that I personally would ever do to any cutter. The cutter can cut 1/4" wall stainless tubing. I made over a dozen cuts on a rusty piece of iron pipe, trying dull or break the wheel. It still cut tubing well.The one thing that I found that causes me a problem is that the wheels, as they come, are not as sharp as OEM. I am unable to make fine lines in a chromed pipe without it spiralling. I have to put a little more pressure on the cutter to get it to cut thinwall stainless, which causes the tubing to neck down where I am cutting. This was the only thing that I found lacking. I tried honing one of these generic wheels and it took a very fine edge. I didn't go crazy abusing it, but the wheel did not chip like awful wheels generic wheels have.For most people, not being as sharp will not be a problem. I bought the 35S for some very specific, somewhat esoteric jobs. I have been told that a slightly duller edge should prevent small chips in continued use. These are made of excellent metal. The bearings are well made and as I finished this review, I 'rescued' a Ridgid cutting wheel that SOMEBODY managed to ruin the roller bearings, by using one of these generic bearings.I gave the item 5 stars because these stand above the generics that I have had in the past. The slightly less sharpness may not even be noticed by most.
