Ideal Christmas stocking filler
Bought it because it was by Chris Beardshaw and his previous books have been interesting. He gives considered views when he appears on tv and radio but this book is in a completely different style - brief and quirky and so different it did cross my mind that he had had nothing to do with it. It could have been put together by his publishers or publicists ready for the Christmas market or maybe that is a little cynical. Hope so because it was disappointing.

Informative
Lots of well researched information regarding plants, their uses and their origins. Easy reading, with great illustrations. A small incite into the impact of plants on our lives, although quite a few of the major ones are not included, at the expense of more unusual ones.

old world charm
It wasn't what I was expecting thought it was another gardening book, but I like it, reminds me of the old apothecary books from 1800s, beautifully illustrated and very informative.

A book to dip into
This book has interesting stories about 100 plants. Most plants cover two pages, one page being mostly illustration. The illustratiions are bold and attractive. It is not a book to red from cover to cover but one to dip into occasionally. Ideal for a person who is interested in plants for whom you are trying to buy a small present.
