Vegan Glucosamine

These are quite large capsules that are odourless and tasteless. They are big, longer than a 5 pence piece as you can see in one of my photos. However they go down the hatch fairly easily with a gulp of water. I am happy with them. They come in a strangely shaped pill bottle that reminds me a little of a hot water bottle! It is not ideal to be honest, I always feel I have to be extra careful when pulling this open as I have visions of pulling too hard and spilling the capsules everywhere. Luckily it hasn't happened yet, and hopefully it never will, it just would've been better in a traditional pill bottle with a screw lid, perhaps. As far as the health benefits my honest opinion is that I do not know. I haven't felt much in the first week or so of taking them, but importantly I haven't had any ill-effects either. I guess I will have to wait and see with my fingers crossed that the health benefits are real and manifest themselves.

There was a time when it seemed everyone I knew was taking Glucosamine for various aches and pains, and many swore by it. I'm not going to discuss whether Glucosamine is a miracle supplement or just snake oil, there are lots of Google articles you can read for that, I'm considering the rest of the product. Vegan-friendly and containing Glucosamine, Turmeric, Rosehip and Phytodroitin (a natural plant-based substitute for Chondroitin), the ingredients list seems comprehensive. There are 90 tablets in the barely half-full "bottle" which seems a touch less generous when you realise you need to take two a day to get the recommended dosage. Still, there's a 45-day supply even at two each day. The "bottle" is large and flat which I believe has been done to make it letterbox-friendly which is a great idea but it brings with it some problems. The large, rectangular lid is neither airtight now moisture resistant and has no tamperproof mechanism of any kind so keep well away from tiny fingers, and it's probably best kept away from the humidity of most bathrooms. Having such a small base also means the slightest knock or breeze has it toppling over. In short, I'm not a fan. The tablets themselves are slightly on the large side but not too bad and let's be honest, if it takes the edge off your pain then all of these shortcomings are probably a price worth paying. Made in the UK it's nice to think you're supporting a home-grown company safe in the assumption that only safe and sanitary ingredients are being used in the manufacturing process.

These look similar to other X-Labs capsules and come in similar packaging, but the labelling and obviously the contents - differ. As you can see this is quite a large capsule, you'll definitely need something to wash it down. Apart from that, it is what it is: glucosamine (used by the body to make other chemicals that build tendons, ligaments, etc.) and chondroitin (a component of cartilage). If you have trouble with joint pain or arthritis then glucosamine can certainly work wonders. Are these capsules any better or worse than others available? I don't know. They're certainly the largest glucosamine capsules I've tried, but if your diet precludes any of the ingredients of the smaller ones, these ones may be an option.

These come in a container that is new to me. No child-proof lid, but this isn't a problem in my household. The lid may actually be easier to open if you have weak hands. I like this container, it is very slim and can fit in a small space in the cupboard. It could be a little smaller as there is a lot of space left in it. It is good this is vegan friendly, as so many food supplements are in gelatine capsules which vegetarians can't use. Only hope other manufacturers start switching. I cannot comment on a medical claims, as this is up to the individual, but turmeric is included and this has become know for its anti-inflammatory uses. So hopefully that combined with the glucosamine will have an effect on my poor old knees. They have a good shelf life, bbe date is nearly 2 years, but I will be good and use them up before that. If I notice a real effect on my knee problem I will update as and when.

I usually take a basic glucosamine supplement, but these have a number of other elements that i understand are aimed to assist with joints. I also dont take any of the other elements, so this was a welcome top up. This tall, thin cupboard friendly container has 45 days worth of capsules which have been easy enough to take with water, in the morning as part of my supplement routine. Vegan glucosamine, phytodroitin, turmeric, rosehip, and vitamin C is listed and all seems consistent with a formulation to support joint care. I can only go from researching those elements in the formulation to see what area's they are aimed to assist, and i am happy to continue using Glucosamine in this form until they run out. Whether the more complex formulation is going to be much more effective or beneficial is very difficult to say, but it does not appear to be having any negative effect either.
