Ernle BradfordThe Mighty Hood: The Battleship that Challenged the Bismarck

full history on the famous ship
I liked the fact it gave a complete history of the famous ship, not just the last few minutes. It was similar to the Titanic, an overrated poorly designed ship from the beginning but loved by the public. It never should have challenged the Bismarck but the Brits had little else to meet the enemy. In today's world there would be a long list of lawsuits.

Not a very good read, unfortunately
Not a very good read, unfortunately. Sort of a unctuous paean to a ship, without significant events or technical details that I was looking for. It's nice that the Hood went from port to port in the 1920s, and that they had nice parties with the locals, but one port call melds with another, and I haven't really learned anything, or seen any telling details other than "a good time was had by all."The Hood was a magnificent, beautiful piece of engineering, and I wanted to hear more about that and what it was like to serve on the ship. I didn't get that.

Sink the Bismarck!
A sad story, but with magnificent valor. This magnificent ship went down with all hands except three young sailors. But the loss of life gave the British Navy the impetous to sink the German Ship, the Bismarck ending its reign of terror. Great story. Required reading for anyone interested in the Second World War before the United States entered the War.

This is a good read
I liked reading about the history of the HMS Hood and her travels around the world. This is an excellent narrative of the life and death of brave sailors doing their best

Very good
Detailed but not boring a very good view of the hood and to some extent the Bismarck . This is an event that will never happen again and move history . Well worth the purchase

The Real History of the Hood
Great background and chronology. I would have enjoyed more about her design and construction with drawings and diagrams, and quoted interviews. Could have been great

I would recommend it to the armchair history buff
While this book may not have covered much that would be new to the reader, it is written in an interesting style that flows smoothly through the main events of the battle with the Bismarck. I would recommend it to the armchair history buff.

Well written and researched and a lot of interesting new information. But perhaps only of interest to Royal Navy devotees?
