can i use rubbing alcohol to mist? or liquid with quaternary ammonium salt ?

I wouldn't recommend it.. The tip gets extremely hot and alcohol is a flammable liquid. Sounds like you might be more interested in something like a one gallon pressure/garden sprayer. You can mix and spray liquids in a fine mist or stream by adjusting the tip of the nozzle. I use these around the home to spray anything from insecticides to herbicide for weeds.. Hope this helps.

Can you use any insecticide or do you have to use just the Black Flag brand?

one can use any insecticide , just when change brands , clean tank out good before using another brand , just make sure what you are going to use doesn't harm animals and birds Les

Let it "heat up" for 3 mins at diff outlets, heating element didn't work, so no fog. What am I missing?

The heating up process is longer than 3 minutes. I let it warm up no less than 10 minutes, sometimes 15 and don't have any issues. Keep in mind once it's hot enough, do not hold the trigger down, squeeze and release the trigger in intervals.

do you know where you can find just electric fogger

I have seen them at a hardware store , Home and garden , and on Amazon
