I live in the Pacific Northwest, and we had an extremely cold, wet and snowy winter. These boots are absolutely perfect for those kind of conditions. They're warm and soft on the inside, waterproof on the outside, and have great traction on the snow and ice. You will not have to worry about slipping or falling. They are super-easy to put on and take off. With the zippers down, you push your foot into each boot while holding the handy loop behind the boot to keep them steady, zip them up, and your ready to do. To take them off, you just pull down the zippers on the inner side of each boot, then use one boot to push down on the heel of the other boot to easily step out of it, then use your other foot to push down on the heal of the remaining boot. It takes only a few seconds to put them on and take them off. The rubber soles are remarkably strong and sturdy, so much so that I fully expect they will hold up for the rest of my life, especially since they will only be needed in winter weather. I suppose you could use them as fair-weather hiking boots, too, if you wanted, since they are so well made. I wear a size-10 shoe, so that's what I ordered, and they fit perfectly ... just enough room in the toes to be completely comfortable.
