Hamblyn's is the best oatmeal ever but not sure about this selection.** A: Not instant. The oat is crushed and would be a little finer than steel cut oats. It is very easy to prepare: approximately five minutes of constant stirring while simmering and it is ready to eat. I received an added "bonus" as my first pot of oatmeal neared completion, too. It suddenly occurred to me that it looked -and tasted- *exactly* like the oatmeal my great-grandmother used to make for her younger grandchildren and great-grandchildren!
