Very detailed
Tons of detail, almost too much! Mine did include the map in the back. Was cheaper to buy the book with the map than just the map itself.

The Definitive Guide
If you plan on doing a lot of exploring, especially if you are going off highway, this guide is a must. At first I found the guide to be confusing based on the way it is organized, but in the field , it all made sense and was very useful finding and exploring OHV trails. The descriptions, history, geology and archaeology contained in this guidebook make exploring much more interesting. Again, if you plan on doing multiple day off-highway exploring, get this book. It comes with Anza-Borrego Desert Region Map which also is the must have map for exploring the region - the rangers even told me as much at the Visitor Center.

Buyer beware - was not shipped with the iconic Anza Borrego map.
I had to return the first purchase of this book when Amazon didn't ship it to me with the famous Anza Borrego desert map that's supposed to be included with this book. I'm giving it the full 5 stars only to affirm how awesome this book is if you want a guide for the Anza Borrego desert region, and not at the fault of Amazon's shortcomings, otherwise this would've been a 1 star review.

Great reference for driving tours, needs and index
This is a well-written and comprehensive overview of the Anza Borrego State Park and surrounding areas, organized along the themes of driving tours. However, given its organization, it's in desperate need of an index. Buy the map that accompanies it, find a place on the map that interests you, and then attempt to find out more about that place in the book - - oops, no index to help you!

Invaluable for Anza-Borrego first timers
Anyone who is visiting Anza-Borrego Desert State Park for a first time absolutely needs this book. The book marks and breaks down each and every point of interest, hike, 4x4 trail and camp in the desert park. The book also breaks it down by the 1/10th of a mile, with descriptions and photos including a foldout map.

Great guide
I've used this book for over 30 years and wore out some previous editions. I started using when I was a scout leader and brought it and the map on many desert backpacking trips. Both book and map were invaluable in planning interesting areas to visit. It's still the top travel guide to Anza-Borrego. The miles are precise between points and the descriptions are very good. Don't hesitate to buy this one if you plan any desert exploration.

Your navigation depends on a map BUT ...
I got the digital version but the maps are totally useless. The scanning process was of the worst quality and I can’t see a thing. Most of it is blurry, and if legible is still of the worst quality. WHY? We are in 2018, How am I supposed to survive in the desert with a blurry map? The essence of this book is that it should include everything I need to know, but I find myself with the need to use other websites and blogs to plan my hikes which is unacceptable because I paid for this book. It has way too much information and description about the trails but without a map or diagram in the same page, makes it a boring read, can be a trail in China or New York, it won’t make a difference. Imagine you are in distress, dehydrated, with a headache and trying to figure out your location ... so you have to read paragraphs after paragraphs of information with a blurry map at the end of the book. GOOD LUCK!
