It works :)
Sounds like a dumb thing to say but this product works. It works very well.I bought this to replace my El Gato HD60+ because occasionally the El Gato stops capturing sound for whatever reason. In addition to having flawless sound so far (after about a month of use) it's also capable of capturing up to 4k video. For the features and price point this product is a huge upgrade from the El Gato HD60+ and my top recommendation for capture cards at the moment.

## Does It Overshadow the Competition?
The Genki ShadowCast 2 Pro boasts impressive specs and features for capturing and streaming your gameplay, but can it truly live up to its name and outshine the competition? Let's delve into its details and see if it captures our attention:**Pros:*** **4K60 Input and Output:** Records and streams your gameplay at stunning 4K resolution and silky smooth 60 frames per second, preserving the full visual fidelity of your gaming experience.* **Ultra-Low Latency HDMI Passthrough:** Minimizes delays between your gameplay and what you see on your monitor, ensuring a responsive and immersive experience.* **Versatile Compatibility:** Works with a wide range of devices, including PS5, PS4/Pro, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, iPad Pro, and more, making it a universal capture solution.* **Compact and Portable:** Its small size and lightweight design make it perfect for taking your streaming setup on the go.* **Easy to Use:** Plug-and-play setup with no additional drivers required, simplifying the capture process.* **Genki Connect App:** Streamlines the capture and streaming experience with recording controls, live editing, and more.**Cons:*** **Premium Price:** Compared to other capture cards, the ShadowCast 2 Pro sits at a higher price point.* **Limited Internal Storage:** Requires an external SD card for recording, adding to the overall cost.* **Heating Concerns:** The device gets warm during extended use, potentially affecting performance.* **Brand-Specific Accessories:** Replacement parts or accessories might be limited to the Genki brand, affecting availability and cost.**Who should consider it:*** Serious gamers and streamers who prioritize high-quality 4K60 capture and low latency gameplay.* Content creators who require a versatile capture card compatible with various devices.* Users who value portability and a user-friendly experience.**Who might want to look elsewhere:*** Budget-conscious gamers who don't need 4K capture or are comfortable with slightly lower resolutions.* Streamers who primarily use internal recording or cloud storage solutions.* Individuals who prefer wider options for replacement parts and accessories beyond the Genki brand.**Overall:**The Genki ShadowCast 2 Pro offers top-of-the-line features for capturing and streaming your gameplay in stunning quality. However, consider the premium price, limited internal storage, potential heating concerns, and brand-specific parts before making a decision. Weighing its advantages against its drawbacks and comparing it to alternative capture cards based on your specific needs and budget will help you choose the perfect tool to capture your gaming moments in all their glory.Remember, the best capture card depends on your individual needs, budget, and desired capture quality. Choose wisely to stream and record your gameplay with confidence, letting your skills, not your capture setup, be the true star of the show!

Very good capture from a indie hardware company.
I picked this up on a lightning sale. It supports 240 FPS at 1080p, 144 FPS at 1440p, and 4K60 capture. It's $80 cheaper than the Elgato. In OBS, make sure to add the audio as an audio source, just like a mic. Some people had issues with no sound because they didn't set the audio correctly.

Requires third-party software to use
When I first got this thing, I was excited since I've used the previous Shadowcast quite a bit! I back the orginal product some time ago and got the OG Shadowcast, worked great with the Genki Arcade app on their website! In the meantime, I've had some ups and downs with them. Mainly a lot of bad times. First being when I got a new Shadowcast, lost the first one, it didn't work with my Switch, but would work fine with my PS4. This was after tracking down the v1.2 Genki Arcade app because the one at the time was in the Microsoft store and wouldn't work properly at all. When I reached out to their support team, I got the basic runaround of "did you turn it off and on again" sort of thing. After following their "steps" and it didn't resolve anything, I ended up buying ANOHER Shadowcast. This one worked fine. Then the awaited upgrade to the Shadowcast 2 Pro....I got it, set it up as instructed in their thick booklet, which only has two pages of actual instruction before it's in another language, and found that my Genki Arcade 1.2 app doesn't work with this thing.OkaySo I did some research and Reddit said you can use it on OBS and play it that way! Alright, no biggieAfter doing what I thought I needed on OBS, the sound was choppy, and the framerate was awful.....More research insued.I got it running just fine on OBS now. BUT IT'S SO ANNOYING THAT I HAVE TO USE OBS AT ALL INSTEAD OF THEIR ONE-STOP APP LIKE GENKI ARCADE TO USE THE THINGSo if you wanna go through the steps of setting it up like you're gonna stream with it, I wouldn't recommend this thing. Just use the OG Shadowcast with the v1.2 Genki Arcade app, it works great, the colors might not be perfect but it otherwise looks amazing otherwise.

Mac users read this review so you don't waste your time
On Mac, the highest resolution you will be able to capture at ACTUAL 60fps is 1080p. You'll need to select 1080p resolution in OBS with the YUY2 Color Format when you are configuring this device in OBS.Now, OBS lets you select 1440p and 4k at 60fps if you use NV12 Color Format - however - when you play the video back it's more like 35-45fps.You can verify this yourself in a program like QuickTime where you can pause the video and advance frame-by-frame with the arrow keys.If you are recording in YUY2 (1080p is the highest resolution you can do this with), you will get a frame advance with every arrow key press. If you are recording at 1080p of higher with NV12, you will not get many missing frames and the video will not look smooth in real-time.I am giving this 3 stars even though it doesn't live up to all its promises b/c personally, all the features I wanted do work fine so far. The 4k60 HDR/VRR passthrough does work and I don't notice any difference from before it was hooked up.So for me, it works as an inline HDMI splitter and capture device for 1080p 60fps video which is what I'm using it for. And for this, it was a fair deal as I got it on sale. I don't recommend paying full price as this goes on sale quite frequently.
