Good Attempt at a topic that is always relevant
Steve Hughes appears to be involved in what we would call "the emergent church." The intent of this book is: it is all about Jesus. That is a good intent. It seems that periodically religious people put layers of stuff inbetween God and us, and Steve Hughes is trying to help people break through all that stuff, and have a direct relationship with the one living and true God. Unfortunatly, it seems like he thinks he is the first person to ever do this. The Reformation of the Church was all about this, as were the various pietistic renewal movements through the centuries. I would review this higher, except there are a couple of faults with this book. One is that Mr. Hughes is guilty of what he accuses others of: He is judgmental in a negative way against some other Christians, such as "street preachers", some of whom I have met and know for a fact are not the way he describes them. Also, Mr. Hughes says that Jesus was uneducated. Actually, Jesus was highly educated. He could read and write. He was trained as a Rabbi. It is all there in the gospels. I would recommend that Mr. Hughes and others read "Velvet Elvis" by Rob Bell. Blessings to your days and your deeds, Mr. Hughes.

Readable
This is not what you think. This is actually an evangelical book. Granted, it's not going to turn any 'hard skeptic' -- and I find it infinitely amusing that it uses the movie 'Contact' for faith -- but it could be useful for someone wavering over Christianity.Despite the title, there is very little profanity in the book. While it's certainly eye-catching and intriguing I think the writer might alienate the people that could find this most useful. It also could be useful for Christians -- who overall ARE good people and truly strive to make themselves 'better' through Christ to use as a booster shot. I think I might most recommend it to them. But this is just the opinion of one atheist. :)

Refreshing! Highly recommended!
The subtitle says it perfectly - "the relevance of Jesus without all the religious crap."This is a fascinating book, very easy and quick to read, and hard to put down. It feels like you're having a friendly conversation in a coffee shop... or maybe hiking with a friend on a trail... talking about THE most important topic there is. It's approachable and concise, with plenty of humor and refreshing honesty. If you've ever wondered whether Jesus is really relevant for your life - if you want to investigate Christianity with an open mind - I encourage you to give this book a try. Also recommended - "The Case for Faith," by Lee Strobel.

Disappointing
Steve Hughes did not address the idea that as humans when Jesus, the Son of God, shows up the holiness would make us respond "Oh Shit!" Disappointing. Another book in the line of making God how we want him instead of God shaping us.

loved it
A refreshing down-to-earth expression of a real faith in real language. I loved it.

Language was filthy.
I felt this book was a complete turn off. The use of vulgar and offensive language through out the book was not needed. I am not a prude and have tried to get into the message of the book but found I could not because of the language.I wish I could have gotten my money back and given it no stars.I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Pathetic attempt to attract attention
What a pathetic way to gain attention for your book. Did you REALLY have to say s***? Honestly, it's very sad for you to think it's even remotely okay to give this book such an unnecessary title.

Zero Star
He is Holy, loving, caring, forgiving, all powerful, all knowledgeable, but no way can we add such 'S' words anywhere close to where His name is. The 'S' word and The Lord's name in the same title = This is what is called 'Abomination' in The Bible.

Hilariuous
The author is ordinarily a stand-up comedian who I saw as the warm up act for Reginald D Hunter recently.A very funny guy, who has some interesting and thought provoking views. This book is easy to read, and will definitely make you smile whatever your views on religion.

Not what I thought it was.
I thought that this book was by Steve Hughes the comedian. When I realised it was about religion, I packaged it up and sent it back.
