Tastes spoiled.
I can echo what some of the other more recent reviews are saying. The licorice takes stale and does not even taste like licorice - it tastes like it has turned sour and spoiled. The packaging has a foul odor. Threw these away after trying one. I've had these before and quite liked them. The reviews that are saying they are too firm/chewy are a little off base - the firmness/chew factor is appropriate for this style - which is one of the reasons I like this style of licorice so much.

just what I was looking for.
I like black licorice sold in America and I was aware Dutch licorice would be quite different. When it arrived I tried it knowing that if you’re not used to it, the taste can be surprising. My whole life I heard about how my mom’s Dutch relatives loved licorice, but “American licorice is nothing like Dutch licorice, You just have to try it.” This tasted like what my mom told me about, but keep in mind Dutch licorice is traditionally salted with ammonium chloride not table salt, so “Salty” Dutch licorice doesn’t really mean that it just tastes like sweet black licorice covered in table salt. Some Amazon reviewers are making the flavor out to be a flaw rather than a feature. It’s something you either try with an open mind, or something you grew up with. Then it can be quite addictive. Very enjoyable experience. I think it answered my questions about the mysterious “Dutch licorice” I’ve been hearing about since I was little, but never actually got a chance to try.
