shockingly great!! I was worried... don't be.. buy with confidence!!
Okay... I'll admit , I wasn't terribly impressed with Mr Betts DVD from the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame.... in fact I wasn't happy with it at all. I bought this with great trepidation , figuring the more recent concert would be a mess, conducted by a semi drunk fool with lame support musicians but the older show may be worth the money.... WRONG!First , let me get to the money for value question... two complete shows of about 100 minutes each '78 and '08... wow, a 30 year span between them.... so historically it's cool and time on disc per cost... pretty high... but it's the quality of those 200 minutes that pushes this to a stunning level for me!The '78 show is better than I hoped for with very good video, playing and a pretty good song list.... but the '08 show is simply mind boggling for me. How the man leading this band and playing with such melodic soul on his gold top Les Paul could be fired from ANY band much less the Allman Brothers is beyond comprehension ....it is such a great show.If you've only heard about drunk or otherwise screwed up Dickey Betts and didn't want to take a gamble.... buy with confidence and cherish the long lovely melodic playing of this Les Paul toting savant!

2 great shows
truely a great package 2 incredible live shows3 0 years apart, but jessica is definitely showin gno signs of age, but rather subtle hints of maturity, and with dickie having retired from touring this is your best opportunity to catch that beautiful tune performed by this guitar virtuosoany fan of the allman bro's of old will enjoy that characteristic dual leads and 2 drummer band makeup. the 78 show seems to have alivelier audienceand features thr tolar bro's dan and frankie who had actually been members of one of the latterday allman bro's lineups, and went on to tour with the greg allman bandyou'll probably recognize themthe 2008 show features dickie's son duanethe old father-son comboand because each showhas covers of jessica, in memory of elisabeth reed and rambling man, you can truly appreciate how even though dickie has been a great guitarist from alongtime ago, his talent has evolved to even greater heights. i'm sure i will be giving this package as a gift for years to come

Not the best sound or video quality but some great playing
The playing is great, especially on the '78 DVD, while the sound quality of the '78 DVD is only fair. Both recording venues don't have the feel of real live concerts and seem a bit "staged," like all Rockplast shows I've seen. The sound and video quality is better on the 2008 DVD but the playing is not as inspired. Dicky's voice is also weak on the '08 DVD. I upgraded my rating after watching it several times. This is a great resource for guitar players trying to learn these songs or this style even though the venue, video, and audio quality leave something to be desired.

Unique Takes On Old Favorites
The air in Germany definitely agrees with Dickey (see Ohne concert in 1991). I just got this music and it is phenomenal to compare him playing songs 30 years apart. The first side is from 1978 and Dickey is a madman--fast, furious, inventive, and uninhibited. This is the GS with the Toler brothers and Dan kicks ass as well. Every song is unique--in High Falls, Dickey does his Whipping Post solo. Inventive riffs on all solos throughout. Liz Reed and Jessica are other standouts. It's a different GS in 2008 but no less original if a bit more mature. You can't go wrong with this one.

Excellent Collection
A then and now collection, a live show from 1978 and on disc 2 a show from 2008. The sound quality on both these shows are excellent. It is amazing how Dickey has survived all these years and not loose too much of his guitar playing and singing.Dickey delivers on both these shows. This is a must have for any Dickey, Allman fan. Also pickup the DVD collection of both these shows.

ONE WAY OUTやBLUE SKYも涙ものですが、JESSICAやRAMBLIN’MANが聞き比べられるというありがたさ。

Vom Feinsten!

Betts Keeps Burning
This double disc is priceless. The 1978 show is Betts in his heyday: fluid guitar lines, open jamming and his usual surefire cockiness. His band is great to watch, a bunch of good ol' boys, including some fierce guitar playing by Dangerous Dan Toler. The big treat is the 2008 show and just how good Betts remains. Sure he is older and his voice not as lilting, but his fretwork is impeccable. He hardly hits a sour note (as he was doing in the early 2000s)and plays with renewed vigour alongside his younger bandmates. A great testament to one of the best and most underappreciated guitarists of his generation.

Dickey 'n' the boys playin' up a storm
I bought this 2-cd over the dvd as I would rather listen to good music than watch it. Dickey has always been up there with the greats, and vastly under-rated in my opinion. This album is a good example of his musical dexterity, backed by a fine bunch of musicians on both concerts, [from 1978 & 2008].CD 1 [1978] kicks off with a loose number 'Run Gypsy Run' before a stunningly intense 11 minute take on 'Elizabeth Reed'. 'Good Time Feeling' chugs along nicely before the slightly below-par 'Dealing with the Devil'-good guitar work but the vocals from Dickey? and an un-named other are absolute pants! So out of key it's unbelievable. However, as if to make amends, this track is followed by a sublime 'Jessica' [try keeping to the speed limit if you're driving to this!] which leads into a stunning 29 minute 'High Falls' which is Allman-like but with Dickey's boot stamped all over it. A finale of 'Ramblin' Man' rounds off the 75 minute concert.CD 2 [2008] [with a different band from the 1978 concert, including Dickey's son Duane, gtr] starts with 'Statesboro Blues' followed by 'Nothing You Can Do' 'Blue Sky' 'Get Away' 'One Way Out' & 'Having a Good Time' before the highlight, nearly 20 minutes of a bluesy/jazzy/rocky 'Liz Reed', showcasing the band's considerable talent and musicianship. The icing on the cake for me during this track is after a relatively short drum solo, the bass kicks in, before the band segue into part of Jimi's 'Third Stone from the Sun'. Absolutely stonking! Two encores, 'No one To Run With' & 'Ramblin' Man' round off the 70+minute concert in fine style. Nice one Mr. Betts & Co.

( Cd 1- 8 titres : 75mn56 / Cd 2 - 9 titres : 74mn01 )
