A great help in reducing external sounds coming through vents.
I fitted these silencer units to a number of ducts where I had also fitted external cowls over the vents. As the property is in a very windy coastal area, the cowls were necessary to greatly reduce the force of air through the vents but they appeared to add to the sound coming through the ducts. The silencer units helped greatly in reducing the sound of the wind effects and other sounds coming through the ducts.

Would recommend
Having had an air vent causing noise issues, but covering it only causing damp issues, this was a life safer. Though the noise isn’t fully dampened, it’s made a huge impact, and option to remove and add segments again makes it versatile enough to make a difference. The soft sponge makes its installation easy

Good performance
The sound absorber work very well. I had to mod them slightly in order to fit into the 4" waste pipes that had been used for the vent holes. I did that by fully wrapping the sound absorbers with 50mm wide Armaflex self sticking foam tape. Initially I did wrap only one of the sound absorbers and left the other one slack. So I found out, that not wrapping the sound absorber does lead to a poor performance, if the internal diameter of the tube is wider than the outer diameter of the sound absorber. In 100mm ventilation duct tubes the wrapping would not be required. The permanent noise from the stream outside has reduced dramatically. Entering the kitchen the first few days felt like coming into a void spot, as if something was missing. Although please take into consideration that the noise reduction does not happen magically. If you expect your fan to be less audible and the fan is fitted on the inside then the noise reduction would be on the outside only.

It works moderately
I think it works on reducing the noise in the room, a difference is noticeable. However I noticed that there’s water on the windows in the morning, so the room doesn’t get the same ventilation as before, so if you already have an issue with condensation, I wouldn’t recommend.

It really does work
Gave this a try and was very impressed on how well it worked, the road we live next to can be busy in the morning and evening and this works a treat at cutting the noise down to a minimum.

This is a poor solution to a duct noise problem for a bathroom inline extractor fan.
Bought this to solve a noise problem with an inline fan. It made little diference to the noise and by design, which I was ok with when purchased, it simply restricts the air flow which will obviously reduce noise especially if you put alot of them in a duct as the seller suggests. Worst of all, it is made from cheap open cell foam which will absorb moisture and therfore become less efective with time. The solution I found to my duct noise problem was to replace solid duct from the inline fan outlet to the celing vent with cheap plastic flexi pipe and encase it in a box filled with fiberglass loft insulation to stop the mice getting to to the flexi pipe. More time / work to solve the noise problem but much more efective than this product as I still have great air flow :-)

Unsure how much benefit
We installed these as we're living in a coastal area that gets quite a lot of wind and there is also a road adjacent to our house. The draught doesn't seem as noticeable, however I don't see any change the to level of sound coming in through the vents
