Will the Polaris 9550 work on my 27 ft above ground pool? thanks

No, the Polaris 9550, 9350 & 9450 are for the in-ground pools only.

What type of filter is included? Is it similar to to sand filter, the leaf filter, or somewhere in between? (Would be nice to know mesh sizes.)

Dear JR_BigRapids,Thank you for your question! The Polaris 9550 comes with a General Purpose Canister which filters about 200 microns. This canister will pick up most debris in your pool. However, if you need a finer mesh, you can use the Fine Sand/Silt Canister (R0517800; filters about 100 microns) or the Ultra Fine Sand/Silt Canister (R0535800; filters about 60 microns).We hope this response was helpful!
