Can I put it over heat with the lid on?

No. The lid carries a silicone gasket and a sealed box builds pressure. Lid off and gasket out, every time. With the lid off the base goes straight over gas, electric coil, a camp stove, or coals. It is metal, so it never goes in a microwave.

Will soup leak in my bag?

Not when it is closed properly. Seat the gasket flat in the lid rim, hook both wire latches over the rim and press each lever tab down. The two latches pull the lid onto the gasket. If a latch is left up or the gasket is unseated, it will not seal.

What will I need to replace?

Nothing on the box. There is no coating, no liner, no hinge, and no plastic anywhere on it. The one consumable is the silicone gasket in the lid. It pops out in two seconds, and a replacement is available from Valtcan.

Is it insulated, and does it work on induction?

Neither. It does not keep food hot, it makes food hot, over a flame or coil with the lid off. Straight off the heat the box is as hot as the food, so lift it by the wire handle or a glove. Titanium does not work on induction.
