How stiff is the upper part. What is it made of.

Unfortunately, the material is not made strong. It's made of a stretch like macrame material. It's difficult to describe. they feel so comfortable and great for the first 2-3 days and they become loose. They're Not to wear for long periods of time because they seem to be getting looser each time I wear them. I love the look, they are so pretty, but not my best choice.

I have wide feet and if I order a 9 do you think it will fit??? Or should i order a 8??? I was wondering if the bed of the sandal is wide enough??

I'd probably go w a 9. Also, there's no arch support if that matters to you. They're comfortable, but a little flimsy. Not as sturdy as Sketchers' Fit Flops.

Are the brown shoes a tan in color or more of a bronze on the top?

Yes, brown bottom and tan top. The top feels like roped mesh. Not a comfortable wear. I ordered an 11 and it fit more like an !! wide.
