Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 8: Cats & Kings (Ultimate Spider-man, 8)

This eighth TPB collects another complete story arc and features Spidey meeting up with the Ultimate version of the Black Cat as well as Elektra. While I didn't really care for the look of the Black Cat's costume and felt this storyline wasn't quite as good as most of the previous ones, I still thought it was good enough for four stars and would consider it a solid storyline and a recommended read. There are several interesting things that take place in the pages, including the frustration of Peter as he learns of the Kingpin's "unfair" release from custody, the Black Cat's flirtation with Peter (whose mind is already reeling from emotions stirred up by Mary Jane, and Peter's continuing problems at high school. The book ends with an uncertain fatality, but I won't spoil it for you by giving it away. Go ahead and pick it up for yourself to find out the whole story.

Bendis's introduction to Black Cat and Elektra is more than I could ask for. Who knew that I could get a good catfight out of this chapter? Bendis writes these like a soap opera. There's always a teeth-clenching problem and by the end I'm dying to know what happens. Especially in this book. Prepare yourself for the best cliff-hanger yet, because it ends on a climatic note.Mary Jane and Peter get more intense.Black Cat and Elektra are beautiful and full of a cat-like fever.The Kingpin's story is revitalized and is more readable than ever.Keep reading! It gets better :)

Spider-man has been a great comic franschise for 50 years or more but this novel demotes it. The novel is a very quick read, and you be wishing for more.To give a small synopsis on the book: Spider-man is yet again caught in trouble between a cat burglary by Black Cat,the kingpin's return and the mystery of a stone tablet. The story becomes an adaptation to the original spider-man story which mixes up elements in blender to spit in marvel's face. The story uses elements of the girl-next-door love interest, and a simplistic mystery story, that lacks deadly secrets for reader to be left surprised and hesitate to turn the page; It's just lacking story and length. But the drawings of Mark Bagley provide a good drama. If you buy the book for Mark Bagely's drawings great, but if your buying this for the world's greatest story, you can pass this up.

This is well drawn, well written, and a fantastic comic book, this collection is probably a weaker one but its necassary for the storyline and if you like Black Cat then its perfect for you.

I throughly enjoyed this part of the Ultimate Spiderman series. My favorite moment was as the Kingpin sits down to a meal reading how his plans have fallen apart and Spiderman goes to revel in his victory. I hope this isn't the last we see of the Black Cat as you can see obvious sexual tension between her and Spiderman. It's enjoyable reading this new version of the Spidermen comics that are modernised as they show many of the characters in a different light. I love the emotion in Peter Parker as he fights against the crime in the city but you see how the frustration gets the better of him and he lashes out like any teenager would, making him more human in doing so. Aunt May is far better in this than the classic Spiderman, she is a tough person who doesn't always seem to end up in hospital like the the original.

I have been collecting ultimate spider man for a while and in this volume bendis brings back kingpin in the story. The story really showcases the more gritty edge of the ultimate universe we get to learn about other characters backgrounds and your view of one character will drastically change at the end.Peter and Mary Jane are still together and the relationship is shown to be doing well. I thought the Relationship scenes were well developed but left a lot to be desired.The art is fantastic and all in all is a good chapter in the ultimate spider man series.
