Interesting, but not what I was looking for
I found the book well written, with good information about the history and characteristics of weapons and ammo in use by snipers. I also learned that qualifying as a sniper is much more than just shooting very well. And for those reasons, the book is worth having on the bookshelf.Being somewhat of a beginner, I was looking for more about shooting techniques and training that would be helpful in hunting and target shooting. That's not what this book is about, and certainly the book is not diminished because it. My only real complaint is the quality of the printing. The illustrations are not clearly rendered. My sincere thanks to the author for his service to our Country. God bless you.

High-level Guide - not a Field Manual
This book The 21st Century Sniper: A Complete Practical Guide is a review of the sniping field, and a discussion of how it has been changing and how it is likely to change in the (reasonably foreseeable) future. There is a difference between just being there and pulling the trigger, and taking a "strategic" view including the theory (no I don't mean ballistics :). The authors done both. The uniqueness of this book is that it offers observations and opinions of the top-notch professionals who not only "been there done that" but also put together SEAL Sniper Course - so they had to step back and take a "broad look" at the art and science of sniping. That "broad view" is a part of what makes this book valuable. Is it practical? Yes absolutely - but not in the same sense as FMFM1-3B is. This is not a manual how to make your own ghillie suit, or dig a hide. it is not a manual on how to improve your trigger control, or where to aim at on a target to instantly incapacitate it. It is a practical guide on how the field evolved, how the missions and tools changed, and what direction the coming changes seem to follow. Some weaknesses: the presented material is sketchy at times. In some places I couldn't but ask myself "why didn't the author develop this thought or expanded on this example?" At times it seems to spend more time and space on stuff I wouldn't consider important. The included ballistic tables are overdone in my opinion: as an illustration (which I'd consider necessary) - just a couple would do to show what they look like and how to use them, as a tool for others to use - too few to be of significance and their quality leaves something to be desired (not to mention that today those who can't afford $10 for a ballistic program on Android or iPhone, can either download a free one like iStrelok or to to JBM Web site - so again, no need to clutter this book with to much of ballistic tables; though a reference to such sources as JBM would be welcome). I'd like to see more discussion on how the two distinct roles of a Designated Marksman (the primary user of an SVD-like rifle) and (Scout?-)Sniper diverge and converge in the current and evolving Tactical and Operational thinking, the benefits and disadvantages of each direction. I'd like to see more on how the Employment concepts evolve (if they do, as one would hope :) - the author is in the unique position to know that as a (former) Director of the Training Program. Overall, more references to relevant information sources would be nice...There's much more to say. In short, I like this book.I'm personally looking forward to 2nd Edition that would cut some stuff and expand on the above.Yes it is a five-star book, but NOT a five-star technical/tactical manual - there are other books that excel at that. It is not a replacement for either Sniper Training: FM 23-10 or Ultimate Sniper 2006 : An Advanced Training Manual for Military and Police Snipers (Ultimate Sniper, 2006 New and Updated!) (which to an extent _is_ a substitute for that manual). Now that the "Look Inside" is available for this book - you can just go in and judge for yourself. I don't regret spending money and buying it. The fact that the authors are great guys is besides the point.

Just OK
Not much information in here like I had hoped. Lots of typo's, double space, lots of pictures that don't add to the book at all. The tables in the back are a blank so you can copy them and take them in the field. My opinion is that it's not a good source of a lot of good information, but there is some value and it is a good read. Just don't think that by reading this you are going to learn much about shooting long distances.

The Closest You Can Come to Navy SEAL Sniper School
I'm not a soldier or a sniper, but I've had around 35 years of shooting experience. The 21st Century Sniper taught me more about sniper technique, weapons options and ballistics than any other book or range experience I've encountered. The logs, formulas and zero data sheets in the Appendix alone are worth the price of the book if you want to truly become an accurate shooter. More importantly, the book is written in such a way as to explain the fundamentals without getting too preachy or boring. The initial chapter on the History of Snipers is one of the most interesting that I've read. This book contains critical information concerning action and rifle types, caliber selection, optics, ballistics and gear in a pretty concise package that is amply illustrated with photos and tables. While there are some more technical manuals out there, The 21st Century Sniper is the most interesting, comprehensive and balanced shooting book that I've read. It is truly a practical guide that is the product of experience rather than theory. Now that I'm teaching my children to shoot, this book is destined to become a well-used tool in my kit.

a good introduction to the theory behind long range shooting
Author clearly and succinctly explains his well founded opinions and proven facts regarding long range shooting. However I purchased the book looking for detailed explanations and a little more of a in depth look of Long range shooting/sniper operations. Would have liked to have seen more detail and instruction and less neat stories, however from an entertainment standpoint book is a great read and is easy to consume especially if you know literally nothing about shooting.

21st century sniper
this more of the history of the sniper. how the name sniper was developed. the history from the cave man to modern day. i was looking for a book more on techniques than history. if you want to know about the history of the sniper this is a fantastic book and a very good read.

The author is Brando Webb enough said ...
Good writing style ...almost as if he's teaching you in your home. Good practical knowledge along with some sound opinions. If you're not familiar with this man, then do yourself a favour and research him. You'll find him among an elite group of talented, committed men ...Damn Few!

Un bon ouvrage / A good book
A good book from an awesome team of snipers ; written by Glenn Doherty (KIA at the Embassy Siege in Benghazi) and Brandon Webb (SEAL Sniper Instructor). By the way ; be realistic ; the book won't make you a awesome shooter.
