Can it take rechargeable C batteries?

Yes you can use rechargeable batteries but you will not have as much horsepower! Also, you will not have as much Time!

I can't seem to find a good holster or loop for this, any recommendations?

One suggestion: Take the hammer loop on a pair of carpenter jeans and tighten that up to where that flashlight will fit through it tightly, but not fall through.

Who sells a 3 pack of C batteries? You'd need to buy a dozen and hope for long shelf life.

Unfortunately, I seem to have to buy a multi pack and hope they last. I have not seen any in a pack of 3.
