Classic Film Scores: Captain Blood

Another in the superb 1970s recordings of Hollywood's greatest soundtrack composers like Korngold, Steiner, Waxman, Newman, and others. All of the recordings in the "red and gold" covered CDs have been beautifully remastered, with the analog sound quality as good as any symphonic recording made today (maybe better in some ways), and this one is no exception. The actor-focused albums of "Classic film scores for... Bette Davis/Humphrey Bogart/Errol Flynn" include music by multiple composers presumably to get the sound background associated with those actors. Also check out the composer-based CDs for the composers named above (and others). Charles Gerhardt conducts the "National Philharmonic Orchestra" which is made up of the best musicians from among London's 5 major symphony orchestras. These are brilliant recordings, every one.

The entire RCA Classic Film Scores series is fantastic. We lived for these LPs to come out. Charles Gerhardt and George Korngold were a formidable team as conductor and producer. The sound on these red/gold reissues is great - best they've ever sounded and much preferable to any of the earlier releases. The Errol Flynn album is one of the best in the series - I mean you have Korngold and Steiner and Waxman and Friedhofer - how can you fail. A must-have for any lover of film music.

This is a bargain-priced sampler of the film scores for eight Errol Flynn films, including two westerns, two pirate flicks, two literary classics. a WW II adventure and the great "Adventures of Robin Hood." The orchestra is excellent, the tracks range from two minutes in length to 12, and the composers include Max Steiner, Eric Korngold, Franz Waxman and Hugo Friedhofer. This is great driving music, with many varied tempos--- romantic, scenic, combative and sweeping. If you appreciate film scores, grab this product.

I had this on cassette as a film-fan teen, and can't wait to get my CD. Gerhardt's interpretations of these selections from great film composers (there's a whole series, see my other recommendations) are stunning, true to the original recordings, with all the passion and grandeur that they deserve without having to conform to a) screen timing, and b) the limitations of monaural optical film soundtrack methods of the time.Finally, that these are available in Dolby Surround, is NO gimmick. These 1970s recordings, remixed for CD release in Dolby Surround, sound FABULOUS with a receiver in Dolby Surround, Pro Logic, or Pro Logic II Music decoding. (I don't recommend you use "movie" settings, as the music isn't really meant to be channeled to Left, Right, and Center.)

The cover of the CD says "Captain Blood", but the disk contains only one 2 minute track from Captain Blood. There's also a track from The Sea Hawk and from Adventures of Robin Hood. The rest of the album is Max Steiner, Waxman and another composer.The performances are wonderful, and so are the recordings themselves, but DON'T BUY this album if you are buying it specifically for cues from CAPTAIN BLOOD or KORNGOLD more generally.

Love to listen to this group of Errol Flynn movie music. The quality is great. The music is a wonderful reminder of these ageless movies.

I have waited years for these L.Ps to be reissued on CD. I now have everyone of the 12 Classic Film Score cds.The selection is perfect. The arrangements outstanding and what glorious sound, recorded in the renowned acoustic of Kingsway Hall. The producer George Korngold son of the composer Erich Korngold was fortunate in getting such anexcellent conductor Charles Gerhardt and the National Philharmonic Orchestra to bring these classic movie themes so superbly to life. Not one of the 12 cds is a disappointment.

Errol Flynn films on this CD are top drawer and are made even better by the music score that accompany them.A must have CD for anyone who likes swashbuckling films.

子供の頃に映画「海賊ブラッド」を見て鮮烈な驚きと興奮を憶え、それからエロールフリンの映画が封切られるとせがんで必ず見に行きました、それらの映画で何よりも印象的だったのがそれぞれの映画の音楽のすばらしさ、作曲家の名前も分からず今まで古い録画のビデオで懐かしんでおりました｡　当時の作曲家の素晴らしさと我が青春のプレイバックを楽しみました｡
