Pipe wrench failed. This works great, even for an old Herman Miller Aeron classic (pre-2013) chair!
We just removed the old cylinder from a pre-2013 Herman Miller Aeron classic chair I was given with this amazing and easy-to-use tool. I'm a 64-yr old fit woman, and my husband is 65 with a bum shoulder. We tried a pipe wrench to no avail, hitting it with a rubber mallet after using some penetrating oil. After reading users' tips, I let penetrating oil sit on both ends of the old cylinder overnight (tapped lightly on the cylinder to create a little space for the oil to seep into the tight spaces), cleaned the grease off, and then used this gadget, which worked like a charm! At first, there wasn't enough space to insert the allen wrench to turn the long screws since the seat was stuck in the lowest position. So we decided to hit the base with a rubber mallet to loosen the cylinder. We were then able to twist the base up about half an inch, which allowed enough room to insert the allen wrench into the top of the screw. It only took about 10 half turns on each side to remove the cylinder from the seat bottom.

These were so easy to use and worked fabulously! Wasn't sure if I would need or not. Why wouldn't you want to. Put them on, top one a bit loose, second one snug and then just turn the two bolts and done. So easy and no hammering required to loosen the cylinder from the chair.

こんなに簡単だったのですか?
あれだけ苦労していたガスシリンダー外しが簡単にできました。 さらにガスシリンダーにはほぼ傷が入りませんでした。 ガスシリンダーの下側用もあれば良いのになーと思います。

Great value for the price given the cylinder is standard size
The description says it is compatible with 85% of the chair cylinders out there. I used it on 2 brands: a gamer's unite chair and a knock off saddle chair. Worked as intended. One of the chair gave me issues but that was more related to blemishes on the metal that created friction against the cylinder. I had to tighten the pushing disc much harder than recommended but I got it to work. This kit beats using the hammer or vice grip or pipe wrench technique mainly because the discs push equally around the cylinder so the energy transfer is efficient and effective. That said, if you happen to have one of those thinner cylinders, the discs wouldn't have enough friction to stay put. In this case, you would need to put some rubber string or similar high friction material between the disc and cylinder to get a good grip. Honestly, the best tip to make removal easier in the future is to apply some lubricant or grease to the cylinder and seat before installation. It will make the process way easier. Overall, I think this product met expectations and made my life way easier for a relatively cheaper cost. My only gripe with this option is that this is a one trick pony tool. It only works for standard size cylinders. But a pipe wrench or vice grip are multipurpose.
