500 Necklaces: Contemporary Interpretations of a Timeless Form (500 Series)

With the promise of yummy things to look at based on the cover shot, this book was a little underwhelming. The intension is good. In the early part of the book the juror states that there were thousands of submissions to be reviewed with only 500 pieces actually making it into this volume. I was hoping to see works from 500 different artists, not several pieces (selectively scattered throughout the book) from the same artists. Don't get me wrong, there are several hundred different artists represented throughout. However, the net should have been cast a little further to showcase more individual artists and not several works of a few.

With way more than 500 amazing necklaces out there in the world that could have been in this book, it's frustrating to have some of the pages dedicated to what would better be described as "scarves" or to see the redundancy of including many similar pieces by the same artists (for example, one piece from the "Guarded Gestures" series would have been enough). While I don't expect everything to be wearable, I would have thought the editors would have narrowed their definition of "necklace" to exclude a 2.5-meter arrangement of rocks on the ground. Overall, it's a good picture book with some amazing pieces, but it could have been better.

Wonderful designs, Great reference book!

All I can say about the 500 Necklaces in the Lark Books Contemporary Jewelry Series is it is so thrilling to look at what contemporary artisans are creating. I think the jewelry in this book is just outstanding and I feel very lucky to have this book to look at time and again. This is another Lark Book that AMAZON offers.

Great book. As a metalsmith, it's nice to have jewelry books on hand for reference and inspiration.

One of the best collections of artistic necklaces. Well worth having in your library. The content of this book will prove to be a source of inspiration, not only for the experienced, but also for the beginner.

I LOVED "500 Earrings" & had high expectations for "500 Necklaces" so imagine my disappointment to receive a book full of 'art jewellery project work'. Some of the work was interesting & I was intrigued w/ the use of found & recyclable objects & I like when artists are edgy & imaginative in their approach, but one pretty necklace would have been greatly appreciated & the only really lovely piece was the boulders & gold stones depicting a necklace.

500 photographs of work from different artists - great for inspiration

It' OK - has too many 'studenty' wouldn't want to wear items for my liking - some of the necklaces are amazing, some totally ridiculous, but that said, not idea is a bad idea and you can get some inspiration from this book!

500 necklaces is good, as was 100 rings and 500 earrings. I did not think that 500 bracelets was as good as the above. 500 necklaces show a variety of artistic, wearable, sculptural and whacky concepts in a coffee table style gallery book. An excellent source of inspiration.

Bought as a gift - lovely photographs - inspiring stuff.
