Q: Are the pages clear? In that, if I insert a photo with writing on the back, it could be seen from the other side?

The pages are not entirely clear. There is a frosted type of insert to separate the two photos in the pocket. You might be able to make out writing on the back of the photo, but it would look kind of cloudy.

Q: Do you insert photos from the top or the sides?

If I remember, correctly, photos are inserted from the top. I bought this beautiful album as a gift for my friend. She really liked it.

Q: Raining hearts doesn't have a pocket on the inside of the cover, should it?

There isn’t an opening to put a photo for the front cover.
