An interesting introduction!
Sameera B. Joyce’s ‘The Ayurveda Cookbook for Women’ is packed with useful information whether you are already familiar with the principles of Ayurveda or are – like me – a complete newcomer to the topic. It’s divided into four sections, each focusing on a different area: the principles of Ayurveda, the overall lifestyle, preparing your kitchen for Ayurvedic cooking, and finally the recipes themselves.As someone who wasn’t familiar with Ayurvedic principles beforehand, I appreciated the way in which the author made them accessible to any reader, taking the time to explain topics like the three Doshas and how this relates to building a holistic diet. The book takes a practical approach to Ayurveda that makes change seem manageable, such as advising batch prepping (rather than batch cooking) to balance time constraints with the benefit of freshly prepared food, providing tips on what to look out for to enable a more seasonal eating pattern, and giving insight on the overall role of food in an individual’s life. Similarly, while the author goes into detail on both ingredients and equipment required for an Ayurvedic diet and about how to seek out Ayurvedic practitioners should you be interested, this is without advocating that you spend a lot of money making huge alterations to your lifestyle all at once.This is an interesting read packed with handy, tasty recipes that would be a great addition to any cookbook shelf.

A great guide for a beginner
As someone who did not know much about living an Ayurvedic lifestyle, I found this book extremely interesting and useful. Sameera B. Joyce provides a comprehensive guide to the Ayurvedic lifestyle – she does not just provide recipes, but informs the reader on the benefits of the Ayurvedic diet.The author also highlights the importance of tailoring the Ayurvedic diet to the individual, rather than blindly following suggestions which may not fit your body and needs. It maintained the importance of safety over strictly following the lifestyles principles, and encouraged the gradual implementation of the diet in order to ensure you do not overwhelm yourself physically or mentally.Additionally, there was a great variety in the recipes. Difference recipes require different utensils, but the recommended utensils to get if you are planning to follow an Ayurvedic diet are highlighted in a chapter prior to the recipes. The book includes recipes for every course of a meal, as well as drinks. If someone is looking to get started in the Ayurvedic lifestyle, I would definitely say this is the place to start.

Wonderful book
As a woman of a certain age, I’m always keen to improve my health and it was actually my yoga teacher who first mentioned Ayurveda to me. Since then, I’ve been hoovering up what information and guidance I can about it.So when this book came along, I was keen to see what it could offer. There are recipes for everyone and, unlike other books, these are recipes that will fit into any lifestyle and seem easy to make and tasty. For instance, normally I see recipes for breakfasts and think I could probably stomach them once but would soon get bored, and these aren’t like that.I also love how the writer devotes a significant amount of time looking at how Ayurveda can boost health, in particular mental health and inflammation are areas of interest to me. And even the approaches to cooking are well explained in this respect.It’s a wonderful companion for any kitchen.

Great book!
Thr Ayurveda Cookbook for Women provides valuable information to those looking to incorporate Ayurvedic principles into their lives. Not only does it provide useful, clear and concise information about Ayurvedic principles and how it applies to day to day life, this book also includes a ton of useful and easy to follow recipes.What I particularly liked about this cookbook was that it first provided more information about Ayurveda. The book explains its key principles but also how it can apply to cooking, mental health and overall relationship with food. It’s written in such an easy to read manner (chapters are well organised and key information is split clearly with headings) that retaining the information is easier.I also loved how this book didn’t just simply provide recipes but explained key ingredients that would help when following Ayurvedic principles and why those ingredients are important.Overall, if you’re interested in learning more about this lifestyle whilst also getting to try new and exciting recipes, then I highly recommend picking up this book.

Diet - Primary Prevention & Wellness Program
Holistic healing through Ayervedic program includes diet. This book begins by teaching the reader in easy to understand how diet is personalized according to Ayurvedic constitutional types and other factors. The recipes are prepared mindfully addressing the importance of digestion of food and its critical relationship to good health. I found the ingredients to be easy to find in my culture which simplifies my lifestyle and reduces stress. Another stress reducer was presenting how to prepare your kitchen ahead of time and takes the rushing around and aggravation out of not having the ingredients ready to go. I really enjoyed that the book addressed both cooking for one or a family. I would be cooking for myself but my elderly parent may not be open to these meals. With quick preparation ahead of time as suggested in the book, I could easily prepare my meals as well as a separate meal for my mother fast. I could also slowly introduce some of the recipes I feel my mother would like. The recipe choices are very diverse. The most important points covered in the book that I feel are vital was:1. Taste of the food - recipes were very flavorful2. Quality of the food - all the ingredients were fresh3. State of physiology of the individual - the book is mindful to consult with your physician regarding any nutritional/food changes.4. Geographic location - the fresh foods could easily be found in my region, in my culture, and stresses the importance of eating and incorporating seasonal foods.5. Most importantly the book is very practical and takes the stress out of adopting this lifestyle.My education, background, and passion is in health and wellness including holistic and integrative medicine. I research extensively all sorts of modalities.I highly recommend this book.
