If you are looking for a compass that points to magnetic North, look elsewhere. This one had the face of the compass installed in the wrong orientation, and "north" indicated northeast. I returned it. I will look for a real compass at a sporting goods store.

The size of this compass is JUST PERFECT to have in a pants pocket, while walking through the woods or actually ANYWHERE that you're not familiar with. Especially if you're a gentleman who gets talked into going to the mall, and she has somehow forgotten to inform you that it's the NEW mall. So a real good pocket size compass is definitely going to come in handy OR if you're female, and he's taken YOU to a new hardware store or a ten (10) acre gun show.

Well, it does point north, but can be off by 5 or 6 degrees East to West. It's great for quick navigation; I use the one I purchased on the top end of my walking staff for fast reference. However, for more accurate navigation, I still use my military compass, which has served me well in some difficult situations. In short, it's ideal for a quick glance, but when used in conjunction with a map, it's not the most effective tool for navigation. But for the money, it works.

This compass technically works, but it often sticks and doesn’t inspire much confidence when you're trying to get an accurate reading. It’s fine as a backup or for casual use, but if you’re heading into the woods or need reliable navigation, I’d recommend spending a bit more for something higher quality. Feels more like a novelty than a serious tool.
