The Expanse: Origins Review: Liked this book - I've read the full series and really liked the books. This is a nice addendum to the series. Review: Beautifully Done - Wonderful art work, and more back story detail than we've had before, all very true to the characters. Amos's was my favorite, but the Alex story was best for explaining things we didn't know about the situation.

For people who are already fans
This is a collection of comics meant to fill in some character backstory for the TV show. Stories are by James SA Corey - the author team who wrote the original Expanse books - along with Georgia Lee and Hallie Lambert - who've written scripts for the Expanse TV show. I expect this pedigree makes it as close to canon as one can get. The paperback collects five comics, one focused on each character. If you've already read the books, then the backstories of Holden, Naomi, and Miller are already pretty well-established, and there's not much new here. Amos' childhood is even darker than I expected, although the books did hint at it. The only really new bit concerns Alex. His character is younger on the TV show than in the books, so they've created a new storyline to clarify why he left Mars. For fans who want more backstory, it's worth it.

Wasn't what I expected
This is actually "comic book" style - illustrations with dialog "clouds" - I was not expecting that. Almost as if targetted for younger readers. The "back stories" I was looking forward to were not particularly "in depth" and some of it had been suggested in the series so was not new. It did give a little more insight, perhaps, into how the characters got to where we join them in the series, but not much. As multi-layered as the characters and screen play has been for the TV series, this little book was disappointing.

Full comic collection with Miller Bonus Story.
Wish I’ve would’ve known about this before buying the first 4 individual comics. The Miller story alone is worth the purchase price. I think you save a little on the purchase as well.

Fairly interesting
This graphic novel does provide thumbnail backgrounds on the characters. It’s useful info, but I wish the tales were a bit longer.
