If the gate is not being used, can it be reattached when the gate is needed?

Yes, the gate can be removed from the hardware and reattached.

Can it be installed properly without having to screw into baseboards? Does it work if you have baseboards?

We have baseboards and it didn’t need to screw into them. The part to hook up to the wall is higher up.

Does It scratch the floor when opening and closing?

I have hardwood floors and had no problem but we installed it about 1" off the floor to be sure.

When the gate is fully retracted, how wide is it? At times I need to be able to clear the walkway or fold the gate against the wall.

The gate will open and sit very flush up against the wall leaving the opening clear and free.
