A real Maple leaf was picked from the tree and iridescent copper plated. This is carefully done to preserve all of the detail in the leaf like its veins and edges.

My brooch was a startling pinky red.
Perhaps I don't know as much as I should about maple leaves, I decided to keep it and went for an evening walk which gave it the coppery appearance I was expecting. Perhaps the colour will mellow with time. I didn't like the dusting in the middle of the brooch, which reminded me of a used ashtray, again this looked much better in outside evening light. I had problems with my first order which got lost in transit, the second delivery was much better and recorded by the postie. Update 25/04/2021. The colour has continued to fade, I get lots of positive comments, people are interested in how the brooches are made.
