My dad and I stared at this for ten minutes
This thing is mesmerizing. As a geology student, it's really useful for visualizing deposition of material and the resulting stratigraphy, but it's also just really pretty. When I first plugged it in and started the sand falling, my dad and I sat and watched it go for a solid ten minutes. It was very peaceful and interesting. It can also work as a great reference for artists seeking to paint accurate mountains.

This sand art is so hypnotizing!
I have this sand art sitting on my desk and it is so hypnotic! I love flipping it when I want a distraction, and watching the sand fall and make different designs is very calming. There is a light from the base of the glass portion which is plastic. I admit that I wish the words "Sand Painting" were not on the base as I think that distracts from the look of the piece. I would have preferred it plain without the writing. Also note that the sand I got was labelled "yellow", but the sand is more orange with a bit of white and brown mixed in. It doesn't bother me, but it definitely is not yellow. However, it's a pretty piece of art and works well.
