The nursing staff did zero oral care for 4 days and her mouth was so dry her tongue was cracking and had a thick layer of tissue (that eventually sloughed off…that was a particular vision of gross…). They worked very well to moisten her mouth and keep the oral mucosa moist enough to get by. I was there every day for a few hours and I don’t think anyone else used them for her.
