2013 album from this band led by M.C. Taylor. Haw is an album of 11songs about family, faith, and an ill-prophesied future, an artifact almost as archaic, lovely and seldom heard today as directional commands for beasts of burden. Taylor once lived hard by the Haw River with his wife Abigail and their son Elijah but he doesn't live there anymore. Having followed the slipstream to the relative bustle of nearby Durham, North Carolina, he has composed a new clutch of tunes that conjure the half-remembered dreams of peace promised by our pasts.

Gorgeous Album
I am reviewing the vinyl here. Let's get the non-musical bit out of the way first. The cover is simple and homey; reminds me a bit of "Wake of the Flood". Nice inner sleeve. Heavy, QUIET vinyl. In fact, a great slab of vinyl. Really a great pressing and really well-mastered. Full of dynamics and clarity. Now to the music. I must admit I have always love Taylor's vocal stylings, dating back to early Court and Spark, his previous band he had with Scott Hirsch. As much as I loved The Court and Spark, which is quite a bit, I really adore HGM. The songs are so laid back, unhurried, casual, yet well-constructed. Having only heard the album a handful of times, I find myself really digging it.I won't do a song by song analysis here for two reasons. One, I am not familiar enough with individual songs, and secondly, this is certainly album oriented music. Think 1972. Americana, but like Gram Parsons, acoustic 68-72 Stones, A bit of J.D. Souther, that kind of thing. That AWESOME kind of thing. Now if I could only find a copy of their first LP!This is a sweet, heartfelt album I am so looking forward to getting to know very well.

Cool, really like it
Cool, really like it. Bought the album to become acquainted with them before seeing them in concert recently ( they opened for Jason Isbell, who is beyond incredible, get his new album, "Southeastern" now). So now we are HGM fans now...

OK
It made a fine gift for my son, and I enjoyed it myself before giving. I'll consider more by this artist.

A Great Album
I am struck by the quality of this album. Within a frame of traditional American music, the sound is inventive; lovely and unexpected at times and lyrically stunning. For me, this is one of the best records of 2013 thus far (April). I find it even better than Poor Moon, which I thought was wonderful.

Great album
This is my favorite of all the Hiss Golden Messenger/Court & Spark albums. It really made me go back and listen to the other stuff with a greater appreciation, too.
